Audio dropout with digitial inputs‏

have an issue with my system and I was wondering if anyone could help.

I have an issue when using the coaxial and optical inputs in my JBL DSC1000 receiver.

I experience an audio dropout of 0.5 seconds at the start of every track, be it an audio CD or MP3 . I have tried connecting numerous external DVD players and other devices to my reciever and it is the same experience. I have no problems when I use the Analog input on my receiver

These dropouts are not random so I don't think they could be due to the quality of the cables I am using. They only occur at the start of each track. Now I understand that when you switch an input for the first time the system will take a couple of seconds to understand/read the signal. But why does this happen for every song ?

Normally the sound should start when the song is at the 00:00 mark, but in my case the sound does not kick in until the 00:01 mark for each track

I have searched numerous forums and am not able to find a solution for this problem. Even the JBL dealer that I bought the system from has never heard of such a problem and does not know how to rectify this.

Any advice in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

That unit is either faulty, or they all do it. My inclination is to suspect all those units do it, whatever the dealer says. It may be that just your unit has increased latentcy in the DAC, but that would be a strange fault. It is more likely a design issue Your options are to insist on a replacement unit, or to just use the analog inputs, and forget the digital inputs.

I would personally demand a new unit, and if that did it money back and get another brand if it still did it.

It's definitively your receiver that it's at fault here.
Just like TLS Guy suggested to you, get a replacement. And if it's still do it, just change brand.

Many recievers have a setting for the digital inputs with options such as pcm, or auto. Try setting it to pcm, because when set to auto, the signal drops at the end of the track, and it has to reanalyze the signal which could explain the extra second before the audio starts again.

Guys,

Appreciate the help and the responses. I will try this and let you know.

I bought the PS3 last week and I plugged it into my optical input, and now with the PS3 i dont have an issue because it has option for Crossfade playback - which i have set at 3 seconds. So now when the current track is fading out 3 seconds before the actual end, the next track fades in.

This ensures that there is no "silent" period between songs as a result of which there is no signal drop.

So at least I have a temporary solution.
