Attention all Axiom owners!

Hi,
Some of you know that I've been looking at speakers for quite a while now. Well, since this will be a mainly HT setup, I've decided to give Axiom a try. (However, I still haven't ruled out Ascend, as well as others). My budget seems to have grown, and grown and grown..... I can't believe a started out with a $500.00 budget.
OK getting back to my point. This post is really for you Axiom owners, but anyone is welcome to chime in. I started looking at Axiom b/c many have said their speakers will do well in a HT environment. I started posting on the Axiom boards and have even tried to audition some Axioms through the audition program they have setup through their website, which is setup really nicely, by the way. I did find someone who lives pretty close to me, but he hasn't posted anything for over a year, so I doubt I will be able to get up with him. I also contacted Amie, who has been very helpful, but it may be that there just aren't that many Axiom owners in my area. This is where you Axiom owners might be able to help me out. I suppose it is possible for some Axiom owners to be active on these boards and not be on the Axiom boards. I told myself, "Hey, it's worth a shot. Maybe there is someone in my area here". So, if there is anyone in the Eastern North Carolina area, just east of Raleigh, or within driving range, just let me know. I've been trying to audition several speakers recently, and it's been tough doing the Axioms. I know I could go ahead and just order 1 pair of speakers and the return shipping won't be that bad if I don't like them, but since I'm considering the M60's, I'd rather not pay the $52.00 return shipping, If I end up not liking the sound (hey, I'm cheap). I think If I could hear any of the Axioms though, it would give me an idea of what the Axiom sound is like, and I would feel more comfortable ordering them and trying them out. So, anyone out there with Axioms, let me know your thoughts, or if you know someone with Axioms, that might be helpful too. Oh, and, New2Axiom, if you're out there, here I am.

$52 to return them? That aint bad. You would probably spend that much just driving to someones house to test them out. Dont forget the case of beer.

Or you could try them out in your own home with your own equipment. for a few weeks vs just an hour or two.

I see what you mean. Those darn gas prices! I suppose it depends on how far away they are too. If there's someone in town, or not far from town, it wouldn't be much of an expense at all...unless you count the beer, of course.

Also, If I could hear them for a short period of time, I think I would have a pretty good idea of what the Axiom sound is like, and know if that's the sound I prefer. I would of course do more critical listening after I order, but I would rather not waste my time and energy setting them up if I know right off the bat that I don't like their sound.

I agree that the best way to make a definitive answer is to try them out in your own home. You get the benefit of listening to how the speakers are going to react in your own listening environment with your own music. I auditioned many different speakers before settling on Axiom and am glad I did. While there were speakers out there that I felt were a little, heavy on little, more appealing, the M60's were impossible to beat based on a cost to performance ratio. The 30 day return period will also give you some time to experiment with placement, xover settings, etc. You could drive over to someones house and demo a pair that are set up really poorly and really be put off when it's not the speakers fault at all. JMO

That kind of logic is hard to argue with. I know an in home demo is the best kind, but I would hope that if someone invested that kind of money into a system, they would at least try to set it up properly, or get someone to do it for them.

If you can find a cheap flight to MT you can demo my M60's, VP150, QS8's, QS4's and PB12/2+ for as long as you like. And you can be assured the speaker setup has been tweaked to the max.

Honestly I think the shipping cost to be able to try something in your own home, with your own equipment is well worth it. If you want to invite others over to make it a GTG you can recoup some of the money.

Being an Aperion 533-T owner, you should give them or the 633 speakers or whatever is comparable a try. I really like them and it won't cost you anything should decide not to keep them.

I never auditioned the Axioms, but, I would if I could actually afford to be out the piddly amount of cash it would cost to ship them back! Some day....some day...I'll have a true home theater with the perfect speakers, perfect receiver, perfect TV, perfect DVD...hell...who am I kidding...this hobby is like doing drugs...

Good point, Pat. I've considered Aperion. I think the 533-T is in a different class though. I've heard it's a very musical speaker and will hold it's own. The reason I started leaning towards Axiom is b/c of the more forward sound, many have said they would work really well for HT setups. I still may consider Aperions since I haven't heard them myself, plus with the free shipping both ways that is an incentive.

I haven't heard the online brands, but have considered, ascend, aperion, av123, and now axiom. I listened to the polk lsi series, some Klipch's, and JBL. The polks sounded nice, but didn't get enough time with them to really form an opinion, the klipchs were detailed, especially with the surrounds, but they were also a bit boomy at times (probably bc of the sub. the sub wasnt very good), and at times they were just a tad harsh.that demo was still very fun though. it was the scene in the matrix were neo rescues morpheus. the jbl's were just ok. sorry cant remember the models, but they were all in the same price range. seeing as they were at diff. locations with diff. equiptment, i don't really see those demos as being very good, but did get to hear the types of sound at least. I thought the klipch's were not bad for the price. if the highs were toned down just a tad, they wouldn't have been bad. however, this could have been a calibration issue and i've also heard klipch can be hard on the ears anyway. id say the polks were the most refined sound, given the little time i had with them, but they were also a little more expensive then the others.

I'd like to hear the RBH tk5's. Theres a dealer not far from me. looking at the review hear on audioholics, its worth taking a look, but haven't heard rbh's before and not sure how they would compare for HT i.e. laidback, neutral, forward, but everyone seems to love RBH. You'd think there speakers were made of gold. So, not sure how these companies compare to the axioms, but these are the ones i've listened to recently. thanks for chiming in.
