I told ya handles improve the sound :D, of course that sound improvement is not having to strain your back to lift the amp
Improved the sound: As in now we don't have to hear the sound of ADTG whining about the lack of handles :D

Why..........you............... :D

I can't help it. All 4 ATI amps must have 4 sets of handles. Obsessive compulsive ? :D

The ATI 3005 arrived and I installed it.

It sounds good, I am not sure if it is that much better than the 7500 but that is to be expected.
I could not get the lights to clip.

I am wondering if this was a good idea.
It draws 130 watts at idle and it is cooking my Preamp.

It draws 130W and heats up on standby?

My AT3005 never heats up my AVP-A1HD even after playing a movie.

Maybe you need thicker glass. My glass is almost 1/2" thick. :D

I can't believe you removed those fine handles!

Nope. My mistake it draws 1 watt on standby and 130 watts at idle.

Bring your glass piece to a glass shop and have them cut a 1/2" thick glass for you and use both pieces. Maybe that will reduce the heat?

I am thinking about the options.

Sounds great. Looks industrial.
As expected, it was not well received.

Perhaps I'm just overly conservative, but the amp doesn't appear to have enough ventilation. I'd move the shelf that preamp sits on up in the cabinet considerably, like 3" if possible. If you can't, if that room gets hot in the summer, don't be surprised if that amp shuts down from a thermal fault.

Thermal shutdown. Seriously?
I wonder if my Preamp has such protection.

The preamp tempurature is up to 108 just watching TV.

Yeah, seriously. My 3005 dissipates a lot of heat, and I'm only using two of the five channels. ATI doesn't describe the thermal protection circuitry, but most high-end amps have it. The designs I'm familiar with monitor the heat sink temperature with a thermocouple.

Some initial impressions.

Wrong Plug
For some reason, it came with a 15 amp plug.
That does not seem right since 450 watts x 5 is 2,250 watts.
Of course, I know that will never happen.

Compared to the 7500 (ATI 2007 clone)
The amp sounds great. It is powerful and a bit better on the high end than the 7500.
The 7500 is used and not under warranty so that puts it over 5 years.
I wonder if SS amps sound changes over time?

There is some transformer hum even when it is only device plugged into a dedicated 20 amp circuit.
And it is not completely silent at the tweeters but the 7500 was.
There transformer hum is an issue.

Sound
My room is 15x35 with a ceiling that slants from 8 to 12 feet.
There is a 6 foot opening in the rear and a 10 foot opening on the left.
So there is some volume to excite.
At 0, reference, the 3005 was consistently clipping.
At -3, it seldom clipped.
At -5, I never got the peak indicator to light.
This is really excellent performance.

Heat
It runs hotter than I expected. The 7500 with the same number of output devices idles at 80 watts and the 3005 idles at 130 watts.
I ran it for a while and the amp was too hot to keep your hand on it.
My optical thermometer measured the highest temperature at 168 degrees.

The AV8801 above used to stay about 105. It now runs about 110.
After the extended very high volume listening session, it hit 125 degrees.

Appearance
Perhaps if it were my child, I could love it on payday.

Something doesn't sound right about your amp. (No pun intended.) I've never heard transformer hum from any ATI amp. Hiss through the tweeters is also anomalous. I'd recommend calling ATI and discussing it with them.

168F is going to reduce the life of the amp. That's really bad. You need to get that amp some ventilation.

I agree. I never heard any kind of HUM from the amp (AT3005, 3002, 2004, 6012) or HISS from speakers hooked up to the AT3005, 3002, & 2004.

The Orion's analog active XO causes some hiss sounds on the tweeter, so I don't think my AT6012 has hiss either, although I've never hooked anything else to the AT6012.

Is the hum from the amp or ground loop hum ?

Bad foreshadowing right there.

Something that simple should not have been missed!

Call ATI and let them know everyone on Audioholics thinks ATI should amend/ atone for this hum, hiss, and plug!

We have extremely high expectation of ATI. Our eyes are all over this.

With the 7500 when I put my ear right against the tweeting there was no sound.
With the 3005, there is a slight hiss very similar to the Sunfire. This is true for all channels.

Do hear anyting at all coming out of your Revel Tweeters?

It is not ground loop hum, it is comping from the amp not from the speakers.
I can hear it when it comes out of standby and get a little louder after the power up sequence is complete (green light).

Absolutely no sound at all (dead silent) from the tweeters of Salon2, B&W 802D2, KEF 201/2, and TAD 2201 - even when I crank the Denon volume up to +12.0 in STOP mode.

Absolute dead silent.
