Some initial impressions.
Wrong Plug
For some reason, it came with a 15 amp plug.
That does not seem right since 450 watts x 5 is 2,250 watts.
Of course, I know that will never happen.
Compared to the 7500 (ATI 2007 clone)
The amp sounds great. It is powerful and a bit better on the high end than the 7500.
The 7500 is used and not under warranty so that puts it over 5 years.
I wonder if SS amps sound changes over time?
There is some transformer hum even when it is only device plugged into a dedicated 20 amp circuit.
And it is not completely silent at the tweeters but the 7500 was.
There transformer hum is an issue.
Sound
My room is 15x35 with a ceiling that slants from 8 to 12 feet.
There is a 6 foot opening in the rear and a 10 foot opening on the left.
So there is some volume to excite.
At 0, reference, the 3005 was consistently clipping.
At -3, it seldom clipped.
At -5, I never got the peak indicator to light.
This is really excellent performance.
Heat
It runs hotter than I expected. The 7500 with the same number of output devices idles at 80 watts and the 3005 idles at 130 watts.
I ran it for a while and the amp was too hot to keep your hand on it.
My optical thermometer measured the highest temperature at 168 degrees.
The AV8801 above used to stay about 105. It now runs about 110.
After the extended very high volume listening session, it hit 125 degrees.
Appearance
Perhaps if it were my child, I could love it on payday.
