I can't believe this deal, an athlon 3000+ and a mobo for less than newegg charges for just the processor.

http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4522847

FIY www.newegg.com charges $165 for this processor in the retail box with heatsinc and fan.

That is one heck of a deal on the combo. I may pick one up and upgrade my 3 year old system.

Spiff,

That is one HELL of a deal.

Downsides:

socket 754: not supported for higher speed chips going forward by AMD but at this price who cares? You're not necessarily going to drop in a faster processor anyway...

AGP graphics: again, not future proofed, and you won't be able to shoe-horn the latest and greatest PCI-express video cards in there, but you could get a AGP class video card like the Nvidia 6600GT for $150 which would do you just fine for 3D gaming if that's your style.

Damn, that comes to around $300 for the core guts... not bad!! I may recommend this to some other folks...

try checking out http://www.compusaauctions.com/ for monitors.

I have seen a ton of 21" monitors on their site . They usually go for about 115 to 175 at the end of the auction. I found this sit after I build my new system which includes a 19" viewsonic. Wish I had seen it beforehand!

Spiffy, I have the Olevia 20" LT20 HVK and I paid $349. You can get it at Staples for a song and a dance with their current ad savings. It's a great monitor. It's about the only one I liked as well as the Sony XBrite 19".

Fry's has it for $299. Staples will knock off another percentage.

(All this, assuming you have a Fry's and Staples)

All this from a guy on slickdeals.net:
Your Success May Vary! but PROPS to OP! Syntax Olevia 20" LCD $245 & Maxtor 200GB $56

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is only available in regions which have the same Fry's ad as Central Indiana. AD ONLY. PRICE ONLINE SHOWS $499

Hey all. For those of you in regions where they have a Fry's and Staples have Staples PM to Fry's ad using Staples 110% of the difference price guarantee. Add the 12% Staples customer appreciation discount running through 8/13 and you can get this $500.00 20" LCD for $245!!

YMMV on the 12% as the coupon specifically states not available to use with price matches but my guy did it.

http:// http://www.staplescentral.com/custo...ppreciation.htm

STAPLES: Item 609591
Model KIT-S00014 Syntax LT20S 20" LCD/TV Monitor $499.98

FRY's AD $299.00

$499.98 - $299 = $200.98 difference x 110% = 221.08.

$499.98 - 221.08 = $271.90 (this price should be available with ad match)

271.90 - 12% = $245.43 (this price YMMV depending on how closely Staples mgmt follows the coupon fine print)

I bought a total of 3 at two different stores $245.43 + tax each.

While you're there, also price match the Maxtor 200GB internal hard drive Fry's ad has for $69.99.

Staples item # 504517
Model L01P200 Maxtor Ultra 200GB 7200 RPM Internal Hard $129.99

PM + 12% customer appreciation brings it down to $56.31

Fry's ad is one per customer on the Maxtor 200GB so I got 1 each at the two Staples I went to. Yep, $56.31 + tax each.

Remember, DON'T CALL FIRST!

Call 1-800-3STAPLES to check for your store's inventory.

FYI: West 38th Street and 86th Street in Indianapolis are now OUT OF STOCK.

DO NOT PULL OUT THE AD NOR THE COUPON UNTIL YOU ARE AT THE REGISTER WITH THE ITEMS AND READY TO CHECK OUT.

Several weeks back I attempted a PM at another office supply store (not Staples) but pulled the ad out first then asked for the item. I caught the manager in a BALD FACED LIE about being out of stock and thus not able to honor a PM. I then went out in the parking lot, called their 800 number, checked their inventory and found they had 13 in the store as of that morning... went back in and confronted him with this info but the manager refused to check the stock room for me. Again, it wasn't Staples, they have always been great!! Let's just say this office store didn't give me the MAX in customer service.

Good Luck,

Mack
