Athena P6000 - Plugging a port???

I replaced my dead JBL subwoofer with an Athena P6000 12''. I think its a little boomy. It just doesnt seems as tight or as hard hitting... I know I should have went SVS but the 150 bucks I paid for this thing was too god of a deal.

I have moved it around quite a bit in my room and now am thinking about giving something else a try - what if I plugged the bottom port with a rolled up sock or something? This sub has two ports, one on the bottom with the woofer and one coming out the front.

What do you guys think? This shouldnt hurt the sub right? It might sound less boomy right? I dont know, I figured I would ask before I messed something up or just wasted my time.

Plugging a port should lower the tune. BUT, it will increase port noise. I have the AS-P400 (single port) and it farts like crazy (thanks to no subsonic filter).

Give it a shot, but be very careful.
