One thing that has me confused about your system. Why 4 preamps? Doesn't that mean each preamp has to be adjusted independantly? Do they use remote controls? What do you use to process your audio and how are your source components connected to each preamp? Do you just have the HD-XA1 and Panasonic connected and that's it?
Oh, yeah. Each preamp is MANUALLY adjusted independantly. They use remote controls (I have four RL-11 Remote controls), but I don't hardly use them. Just Manual control.
I use the Galaxy Audio Digital SPL meter and set every channel to 65 dBC. The Bottom (1st Preamp) is for the Front Left & Right. The 2nd Preamp (2nd to bottom) is for the Center & LFE channel. The 3rd Preamp is for the Surround Left & Right. And the 4th Preamp is for the Rear Left & Right.
The HD-XA1 has 5.1 Analog Output (Internal Decoders for DD, DD+, TrueHD, DTS) and each of the 6 channels is hooked to the Preamps TAPE-2.
The Panasonic BD has 7.1 Analog Output (Internal Decoders for DD, DD+, DD-EX, TrueHD, DTS, DTS-ES, & DTS-HD) and each of the 8 channels is hooked to the Preamps TAPE-1. A lot of analog cables (digital Coax).
No processors other than the internal processors in the Toshiba & Panasonic.
This idea came from my personal experimentation comparing the sound of the HK 247 receiver, Pioneer Elite SP99D Pre-Pro, Millenium DTS Pre-Pro, and RL-11 in 2-ch Direct Stereo modes. It seems to me that the sound from the RL-11 was just a lot clearer and more open & dynamic. The Pioneer was the worst one because it sounded very "congested".
One day my wife came in the room to turn down the volume. She could not even figure out which of the 20 round knobs was for the volume.
