Hello,
I am piecing together my first home theater and would appreciate any
constructive advice regarding my question. First off.... I will be using a
recently purchased Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver and a Yamaha C-750
changer with my system. There are many reviews on the original Athenas
( mostly positive ) but I can't seem to find reviews on the newer lineup. I was planning on this setup : AS-F2.2 ; AS-C1.2 ; AS-R1.2 and the P-6000 sub. I listened to these at an authorized dealer and they sounded pretty good to me ( understand that I have not auditioned many speakers ). They were powered by a Denon receiver / cd player. I sought out the Athena's based on the great bang for the buck reviews read in the past. I guess one of the questions is how should these speakers pair up with the Yamaha receiver / changer ?? I would like the system to perform well with both music and home theater. I could be out-the-door with this system including three
R-1.2's ( for a 6.1 setup ) for under $ 1300. This setup including the Yamaha equipment would total $ 2100 without cables. From what I have read on the
net..... this would seem to be a reasonably economical setup. I just received Audio Advisor's catalog which packaged together a Wharfedale Diamond 9.6 system ( 5.1 setup ) including powered sub for around $ 2200. There are no dealers around my area so auditioning these is out. Any owners out there with some advice ?? Would this match the Yamaha equipment better than the Athena's ?( by the time I added another surround for 6.1,the Wharfedale package would be at least $ 1100 more than the Athena package ). I don't want to chince out and then regret it later, but on the other hand.... $ 1100 is a lot of money. I am just looking for good sound and my tastes in music varies from rock, pop, reggae, jazz, blues, alternative. I would really value an opinion from somebody that uses the newer Athena's with a Yamaha receiver.
Thank you for reading this rather drawn out post !
