Aspect Ratio and Resolution

I have a new Integra 50.1 AV Reciever which has the capability of changing the Screen Size Apect Ratio as well as Resolution 480i to 1080i. I will be taking delivery of a Panasonic Plasma TCP50G this week. By virtue of looking at the Owners Manual online. The Panasonic does the the same. Should I use the Menu to change or modify these settings on the AV Reciever. Or should I change or modify the settings on the TV.

AFAIK, Integras only apply video processing to your analog video inputs, first of all.

In either case, I would never mess with AR, because I like how it's supposed to look! ;)

Then again, I'm not a fan of fat faces.

The TV AR settings are so that you can stretch a 4:3 to fill up the 16:9 screen. At least that's what I've seen.

So you deal with black bars, big deal, it still beats inaccurate and disproportionate representation of video. BTW, there are many ARs out there.

The TV can change the aspect ratio as well as scale the resolution (eg. 480i -> 1080i) and deinterlace (1080i->1080p). Additionally the TV usually has multiple 'zoom' algorithms to change the aspect ratio and not all of them will make people look fat.

Personally I think you should just pass the content through to the TV in its native resolution and aspect ratio. The TV is going to scale and deinterlace to its native resolution and if you leave the aspect ratio alone, you have the choice of having the TV change it or leave it with black bars if it was 4:3.
