If AH does review a pair, I hope it is the RAAL 70-20XR version ;D

I presume the guys at Ascend listened to both MDF and bamboo and didn't choose bamboo because it looks better.

Why do we have to presume anything that can be measured?

There are so many variables that affect how a speaker sounds it's unreasonable to expect the manufacturer to provide every possible one.

The measurements Ascend provides are already among the most comprehensive in the industry.

Besides, wouldn't any negative cabinet resonances manifest themselves in the FR and decay graphs to begin with? Cabinet resonance is something that is only a secondary indicator of sound quality. It's even possible that the different or even increased cabinet resonance of the bamboo enclosure smoothed out something on the FR plot. Why worry over a cabinet resonance measurement that looks non-ideal if it had no effect - or even a positive effect - on the end result?

That horizontal center is so big, you might as well use a vertical bookshelf.

I say this since it seems most vertical speakers have better accuracy and measurements than horizontal speakers.
I doubt a vertical bookshelf speaker can keep up with those towers for any type of demanding, dynamic playback, power handling, tonal matching to the front soundstage. But I know what you mean. ;) My guess the reason it is so big to match the cabinet volume of the tower. It's also a WT/MW so it will have some height to it. With careful crossover design (which Dave seems very anal about) any issues of off-axis acoustical interference which plague a lot of other horizontal centers can be avoided.

But yeah that center IS a MONSTER.

That's what I wanted someone to say.:D

I agree completely.

When the Sierra-1 came out, DaveF did post an accelerometer measurement of the cabinet, much like the type done by Stereophile.
Here is the post:
Sierra - The Cabinet - Ascend Acoustics Community

But like jonnythan said, cabinet resonance issues should show up in the decay plot.

Dave also posted some quick measurements of the STC (Sierra Tower Center):
The Tower Discussion Thread! - Page 18 - Ascend Acoustics Community
Can you point me to the measurements of the STC from the second link. I can't seem to find them.

BTW Gene you got to get a hold of these puppies for a review.

and we all know how much credence some members place in those graphs and squiggly lines.
I love graphs and squiggly lines, but darn it, being old my ears don't seem to be able to hear them.

Yeah, you need to be a member of the forum to see the graphs/pictures.

For the graphs of the center, I think it is important to read the text so you know what you are seeing.

Well then..they better sign up because Dave, will be posting his comprehensive findings between the NrT and the RAAL...I know I'm looking forward to it...although reading between the lines from prior comments I kinda know which way he is leaning....:D

Does anybody has an idea of what the retail price will be for the new center speaker?

My guess that a good ballpark price would be to take the price of a pair of Sierra towers and cut it in half. ;)
