It feels good to know that genes killed papa, not the bottle of Wild Turkey or the .38 revolver he shot himself with on Christmas Eve.

You have a shocking ability to purposefully misinterpret news articles.

I'll say. The article could hardly be more clear that it isn't about what to "blame" for ones loneliess: "The study does not show which came first -- the loneliness or the physical traits."

It's about why lonely people have more health problems, not why they're lonely or whose fault it is.

Naaaaawww.....

This article only demonstrates the current scientific/political trend that stimulates the entire victim society in which we all now live. Anything that causes the misgivings/improper behavior of an individual, and that person is deemed not personally responsible. I call it socialist science:rolleyes:

Ya know..... it's always the same'ol...same'ol in todays age:

a guy is a convicted as being a serial child rapist, and he should be set free with probation because he needs treatment for his Illness......not punishment.

Your child is a trouble maker at school.......it's not his/or parenting fault....give him some pills for his sickness.......

I could go on & on& on....

These are all small example pieces of the same large puzzle. Personal responsibility is out.......socialist ideals are in.

I'm sure you came to that conclusion based on the title of the article. The actual content of the article and the study it describes says nothing of the sort.

Yep, just the pictures :)

I think he is saying these lonely, and thereby sick, people are completely responsible for being that way

You sure?

"The study does not show which came first -- the loneliness or the physical traits. But it does suggest there may be a way to help prevent the deadly effects of loneliness"

"What this study shows is that the biological impact of social isolation reaches down into some of our most basic internal processes -- the activity of our genes," Cole said.

"The findings suggest that the loneliest people had unhealthy levels of chronic inflammation, which has been associated with heart and artery disease, arthritis, Alzheimer's and other ills.

The next step is to see if this might be treated, Cole said."

I don't see where anything at all anywhere in the article says that loneliness is caused by genetics. It says quite the opposite.

You really should read the article. If you can read through this whole post (that's a big if) you should be able to read and possibly comprehend the article.

I understand that simply reading the headline is easier and somehow allows you to form complete opinions about the other 99.9% of the words on the page without actually reading any of them, but I implore you to understand that the vague implication in the headline is not an accurate summary of the gist of the article itself.

I know lonely people who happen to be very healthy, I know happy people that sadly are ill or go from one illness to next. Though I do believe that a state of prolonged melancholy can be harmful to your health.

That is utterly mystifying to me.

Could you maybe point out what it is in the article you find objectionable? A quote, that is...

Because the article says more than once that it is about the EFFECTS of social isolation, not the causes. It's about gene expression (of genes present in all people), not genetic predisposition due to genetic variation.

(Of course, if they DID find evidence for genetic predisposition, just because it doesn't fit with your philosophy wouldn't make it wrong...)

Isn't it obvious to you?

Must I explain how in todays socialist society of victims, blame is always cast away from....errr....nevermind.

Why bother?
