Are we talking snake oil here?

The author of that review never met a tweak that didn't drastically improve the audio - at least to his ears.

As usual for these types of products, the explanation for how it supposedly works doesn't make any sense. I say snake oil all the way - and no I haven't tried it, nor will I.

Man, if only it had 12 triangles on that disk instead of 9, then it might work. No way, 9 triangles just won't cut it. Especially with carbon fiber and kevlar. Everyone knows you need adequate ventilation with Carbon Fiber. And green? How audiophile looking is that? Sphfff! :D

If you want to throw away $200 . . .

. . . I'll be more than happy to take it off your hands. I guess if you want to keep your equipment safe from stray bullets (it's made out of carbon fiber / kevlar material - same as bullet proof vests), then go ahead and buy one :) .

When you start using words like "synergistically" and "dramatically" you're definitely trying to attract attention to yourself. Since the product can't speak for itself, you need to throw big words around to get people excited and interested.

Whether or not it does anything - who knows!!?? I've never used one, so I won't flat out say it doesn't work. But ask yourself if you think $200 seems like a reasonable price for a piece of carbon fiber. I use a carbon fiber/kevlar/graphite composite tennis racquet that I can assure you was more complicated to engineer than this mat. It only cost me $169.

To quote P.T. Barnum, "There's a sucker born every minute." My advice. Don't be a sucker. Buy some new music or movies and enjoy what you have.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Many of the reviews by that particular person are questionable at best. Save your money.

Hometheaterhifi (Secrets) usually has some decent and often factual reviews. How much do they pay these idiots to review such garbage? I never had any intention of purchasing this so called "Tweak".

I knew I would get a fair share of responses by posting it here. Maybe Gene or Clint could get one of these and run it through it's paces. I would bet marigoaudio wouldn't agree to it unless Audioholics agreed to give it a favorable review or require them to purchase it at full retail.

Don't worry, the sucker that was born today isn't me.

A simple comparative screenshot concerning the disks DVD enhancing properties would have been cheap & worth an additonal 2000 words (1000 for the before, and 1000 for the after shots), and since manufacturers pay-per-word on their writen blowjo....,er,......Reviews, then it should have also made them alot of money.

I just read a review this product.

http://marigoaudio.com/cdmat.htm

It looks like snake oil to me but the folks at secrets think otherwise.

Anyone else no anything about these disk mats?

This product from a company selling wire as though they were diamonds, D color flawless? LOL :D

It is as bogus as it gets, so is the reviewers knowledge of audio science. He is very good at BS, science, zero!

I think my swamp land would make anyones system sound and look better than your bridge! I can't go into all of the details right now, but the swamp water helps in resolving the pits and lands on the disc resulting in a more "liquid" sound.

I'm always amazed when editors allow such obvious snake oil promotion into their magazines. There's really no excuse - and ethical journalism, contrary to what is stated, demands that we do do a little fact-checking before allowing our readers to be influenced by every tweak to pass by our doors. "We haven't yet proved that it doesn't work" isn't good enough in our book.

If you had any idea how many of these types of product reviews we turn away each month you'd laugh. If others want to do them - more power to them. We prefer to hold the line.

Ok

So you all disagree with the theory. That much is clear. I used the TNT model and built a CD mat out of thin cork sheeting that is reported to give similar results as the commercially available units. I was not able to hear differences with my homemade CD mat.

I also tried the RS tape demagnitizer and didn't get anything for results from that.

There are some tweaks that I think could benefit CD playback, but I haven't seen any that I can remember. The matt is pretty comical, but still not as hillarious as the "chip treatment" that "upgrades" your CDs, or the jar of rocks you set on top of your player to improve the sound.

I think that all of you are way off target. There is no way that this product does not work. Finally I've found a reviewer objective enough to send my revolutionary new product to. I guess I can let the cat out of the bag to you guys; I've got the patent now. Essentially the idea is this. I've found a way of infusing coffee beans and copper to create the ultimate speaker wire. I’m going to call my brainchild "Coffee Cables" and my products will be guaranteed to wake up your ears to what you've been missing. I'm coming out with only 3 types of cables to start. The first will be called Cup a Joe cables. A no nonsense cable served black for that dark rich sound. My second kind will be called Latte linkages, add in some milk for that creamy quality we all want. Finally there will be Caramel Mochiato cables, for that super sweet, extra potent sound. Pricing will be very reasonable and start at $80 a foot for the Cup a Joe, $90 a foot for the Late, and $225 a foot for the Mochiato (audio grade caramel is very expensive). I'm taking orders now.

wow, sounds like a great business plan, the marketing implications are endless with cross promotion oppurtunities, but can we try it with a more exotic sounding metal, copper it too plain, we need something extra special, I so wanna be a shareholder, we'll be rich

I can't believe I didn't think of how plain sounding copper is. Thanks Spiffy. I'm going to start a seperate line for both solid gold and platinum wires. But is there a way we can coat the whole thing in diamonds. None of those crappy lab diamonds with their stunning lack of imperfections, were talking rare earth mineal diamonds all the way. I've been in touch with Starbucks and Tim Hortons with regards to promoting specialty lines. Welcome aboard Spiffy, we'll be kajillioaires in no time ;) .

gold or platinum isn't exotic enough, ppl hear about those all the time, what about Technetium and Hafnium sounds like something that would be used to make $100/ft cables. We infused the Technetium with Hafnium and it will make their 10 dollar speakers sound like 10,000 dollar speakers
