Are SACD's worth the trouble?

We all agree that the original source recording is the most important factor in terms of sound quality.

But in terms of the technology/player, I don't think anything beats music recorded in Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD MA on blu-ray discs.

A great example is the "Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Live At Radio City" blu-ray. I don't think anything beats that...And I don't even like Dave Mathews' songs.

Just for my two cents...

Linn Records releases all their stuff in SACD and their prices are very reasonable, especially when they had their 3 for 2 deal last winter!

I totally agree with PENG, recording source is the most important. I do have CDs that rival SACD. But, an excellent source on SACD: Bliss. I have bought many classical and a few Pop recordings from Linn, they have all been excellent.

Plus, since they are Hybrid SACDs, you can rip them for playback on your portable devices or you UPnP server.

It's clearly comes down to if you think its worth it or not. I don't have 5.1 and i mostly use my home entertainment system for listening to audio only. In my eyes its just a benefit that the TV happens to be in the same room and i can hook it up through my stereo. Personally I think SACDs are great and its a shame that its a dead format. It really comes down to are there enough things available on SACD that you want to listen to? I personally only have 5 SACDs so far but its not an entire waste because my SACD player still plays CDs and it does so quite well. I'm happy having spent my money on the SACD player rather then a blueray player for my TV because thats what matters to me.

Take a look online at SACDs and see how many interest and at their price and then consider how much money you'd be willing to spend on a player and see if that money can be spent in better ways in your eyes. Simple as that.

All of my SACDs & DVD-A are collection dust as well.:D

The reason is simple.

All my favorite songs are in WAV uncompressed format on my USB connected to my Denon AVR.

Just like all my blu-rays are in ISO uncompressed format on my HTPC.

Physical discs are becoming more and more of a hassle.:D
where can you buy uncompressed WAVs, or the source disk to then convert them to uncompressed WAV and what hardware would you need?

but only a tiny fraction of that number available as hi-rez downloads. The hi-rez download market is very very limited ... I'm not sure that the hi-rez download title situation will change much ... labels don't like releasing their studio masters without DRM ... and SACD has DRM on the hi-rez layer.
where are these High Resolution download locations?

quite, I guess what I was trying to ask was where can one legally download hi fidelity digital music. I have since found HDTracks.com.

does anyone have any other suggestions?

I just purchased Tom Petty's new album MOJO on Blu Ray. It plays in stereo or 5.1. I don't care for the lyrics or compositions much, but the sonics are real good. It makes me think Blu Ray could conceivably be the future of audio delivery media.
