Are car bombs our future?

With the two diffused bombs found in London today, I can't help but feel that a war of this kind is on its way to both sides of the Atlantic. I'm glad that authorities in the UK are good at dealing with these kind of threats (mostly because of the IRA), because they probably saved a lot of innocent civilians last night.

Is this our future? Isreal has already lived through car bombs and suicide bombers for a generation, and it doesn't show much signs of stopping anytime soon. I can't see military action solved the enormous problems of the middle east, and with the world getting smaller and smaller, those turmoils are going to spread to Western countries sooner than we think.

What do we do? How do we respond? I don't want my children and their children to live in fear, but I'm afraid that's where the world is headed. I know these are huge questions, and I don't expect anyone to solve them here, just mainly had to get all that off my chest.

Your last paragraph explains everything, if we allow terrorists to rule our lives with fear we will be victims of what we fear. In the US since the 9/11 attacks many citizens live in fear and don't know who or what to turn to, so our government steps in and starts slowly taking liberties away and the population of a soveriegn nation just sits there and allows it to happen. Gas taxes and other excise taxes have risen to all time and disproportionate highs because no one will stop it, at least not quickly. Get the trash out of the politics and maybe we can work our way back to what we were supposed to be. This is a concern for any nation, but no one seems to care....."sigh":(

In the “West End” well as long as they don’t blow up the “EMPIRE Leicester Square” I don’t give a hoot.

Well that’s sodden Tony Blair for evolving this country in the golf war, no wonder someone is pissed off with the UK, I don’t blame them if they what to retaliate against this country let them. Although don’t go after the common people, go after the evil British government.

My dad would laugh at this, since he and his brothers and sister grew up around the blitz in WWII.

For example, there was a law passed after 9/11 that forces your bank (not that the bank cares) to close any inactive account that is left inactive for a determined time (around 3 years if I remember correctly). I had a savings acount that I had no intention of touching for years, and I knew nothing of this law, and I lost that account and the funds in it.

Believe me, our freedoms will slowly be removed unless enough people do anything about it.

Unfortunately, thats the nature of any reactionist culture and America is at the top. Whenever something bad happens the majority of the people just don't understand it because of the way they were raised, everything is supposed to go our way because we are great isn't it? I mean how could someone hate us we are so good to the world . When something does go bad we give all the power to those who already have the majority of it saying fix our fear/confusion or else and they "fix" it but also put methods in place to create more fear, i.e. the color system of terror.

The design of our culture lends it to this type of situation as soon as someone is in office and not constantly talking about terrorist threats the general public can forget and than we will get our liberties back until then we must live with the rules in place from the "Patriot act." Unfortunately, it seems as if the majority of people are not smart enough to have a happy medium there are just too many extremist in the U.S.

LOL..... so you think that's 9/11 related???

Ooooh my... you need to stay of the leftist websites, because you're being spoonfed bad info. Accounts becoming 'inactive'....that's a phenomenon thats going on since like forever!!

Secondly, it doesn't happen like you suggest!! After a few years, dormant accounts do go inactive, but the state (not feds) does NOT just snatch up your funds. There is a several year period where the bank is required to contact the account holder, and if they are unsuccessful (ie...like the person is dead and there are no further contacts)....then the funds go to a "State Unclaimed Funds" account....... with a name attached.

I can only imagine your paranoid sources, because this is nothing new!! You kiddies crack me up:rolleyes: Lemme guess... it's all GWBs fault? hahahahahahahah

Have you ever seen those TV spots about checking to see if you have unclaimed funds waiting for you??...... this is, in part, what they're talking about!!

Now please tell me about your gasoline conspiracy theories:p

I see......you lavish these threads don't you?:D

Hmm, gas rape, I mean prices. The cost per gallon (the import) of gas rose in the 1970's (79' if I remember right) to about $1.50, the price to the consumer barely broke that price per gallon for the import. Now the gas price (import) is near $1.50 and we pay near or above $3.00 a gallon, how is that equitable? Taxes are higher on gas as well as tobacco products than they ever have been.

Is it George W. Bush's fault, I don't know. However, I do find it strange that he purchased several american oil facilities and ran them into the ground. How is it that this guy who can't seem to run a business becomes President? Maybe he stands something to gain from the loss of those other companies.

If you don't recognize that our government is corrupt and in need of reform then you need some help my friend.

You forgot to spread the blame between Cheney, and Halliburton.

You are correct about that state program / money grab.
My wife has been in her own accounting business for 25 years, and she confirmed it, for me.
The states are desperate for money; my state of N.J. is one of the worst, when it comes to taking money for nothing.

Hi guys, the link below may help with the history of oil prices. It's very informative, as to reasons why, and how.
It tracks prices as far back as 1947. I hope it will help a bit.

One of the single biggest reasons we have high gas prices is because there has not been one new refinery built in this country since around 1974 or 1977. We are simply running at the absolute maximum for production. If the tree huggers would let new, more efficient refineries be built we could erode much of the current cost at the pump. That would be a short term solution. We could then focus heavily on alternative fuel sources.

It is funny that the tree huggers have no problem with some 70+ Ethanol refineries being built even though it is not an efficent way (corn) to get Ethanol.

Ethanol is not the way of the future.

Very well stated!!

The fact that lib politicians have been successful obstructing the construction of new refineries for nearly 4 decades truly amazes me considering the population has grown by more than 50% during that same period. (and usage has grown exponentially)

If anyone wants to complain about pain at the pump....... you should complain to democrats because they are to thank for the excessively high gas taxes & limited domestic supply:(

....and to think, many are currently proposing higher gas taxes this very moment. What's an additional $1,$2 or $3/per gallon....right? Why cant we be more like europe??

Who came up with the half-baked idea that mixing $2.80 a gallon gas, with $4.00 a gallon Ethanol (June 06 price) would help anyone?
What happens when all the farmers that raise corn for cattle feed, pop corn, corn oil, breakfast cereal, corn on the cob, corn chips. etc. all switch to raising corn for ethanol. The price of all the above products goes up. The price of cattle will go up.
As demand for ethanol increases, the price of it, will go up too. Then when most farmer jump on the ethanol band wagon, all produce prices will skyrocket.
The high price of oil is due to political factors. As was stated by others.
