Are all HDMI cables created equal?

I personally picked up a 100 dollar monster cable. It also came with a claim of free lifetime upgrades to the latest and greatest when each subsequent gen of cable comes out. Plus I needed a 3d capable cable. Guess ill find out if monster is going to honor their claim or not when I need a new cable.

I've never used anything other then Monster and the cheap generic cables that can be purchased for nothing. Do these other companies like BJC also give a lifetime warranty on their cables? I just had a pair of Monster component cable replaced after not working for about 3-4 years. I hated to throw them out and just happened to call them one day for info on other cables and found I could get these components replaced. I definitely got lucky that day.

Thanks for the info guys, I definitely have to look into these other companies mentioned here.
I've had BJC in my system for 3 years and their still working. Most cables that I've tried by other manufacturers including BJC usually crap out within 30 days or their DOA and within the 30 day return policy.

Wow, you're tough on cables. :D I've used many, many cables in my life, and the only one that I can remember ever stop working was a headphone extension cable that I got from Radio Shack...after using it for months...and wrapping it tightly around objects to keep it from moving. I guess it still works, but it sometimes looses connection unless I move it around a bit. :)

I've only had 1 cable failure too.... And it was a Nordost Blue Heaven RCA cable. Fortunately, they were given to me. BTW, I could here the difference like night and day. LOL!!!!

Now guitar cables are a different matter. I always buy the lifetime ones because they last a little longer...... At least long enough it's hard to find where to exchange/return them...

Not tough at all. Of course I'm speaking only about HDMI cables. The audioquest cable was DOA, the "Monstor cable the darn connector separated from the pin assembly when it was unplugged of course Beastie Buy replaced it. FYI; My speaker cables are still going strong..

Ahhh, gotcha. :) I was a bit tired this morning, I guess.

I'm mostly using Monoprice HDMI cables, but also some brands that I don't recall - and none have had any problems. I've been lucky so far. :)

Leon, there is certainly a sense of excitement when getting new equipment or accessories with them, but putting the excitement aside that cable was pretty expensive. I am curious as to what type of upgrade you may be thinking will come in the future that you would need to upgrade to? I did not see that you were using a really long run with the HDMI but I would rather spend $20 on a good cord, then spend another $20 the next time an "improved" technology needs an HDMI upgrade. I do not know you obviously but I would rather spend $20 on the cable and $80 on good scotch, then after drinking several glasses laugh at the rediculous amount i almost spent on an HDMI.

Will I get as good of a signal with the 6' HDMI cables that my cable company provided with their box as I would with 24 awg cables purchased from Monoprice? Connection is from cable box to AVR and also from Blu Ray DVD player to AVR. The cable installer left we a extra for my DVD connection.

Thanks

Generally speaking, yes.

The cable company provided cables are usually of pretty low build quality which makes them more susceptible to failure, but short of that, you should expect perfectly fine results for years.
