Appropriate Power on chain for HDMI devices

I searched for this thread, so if I'm in the wrong forum, please forgive.

What is the best sequence for power on hdmi devices? I'm wondering if there is a certain order that components need to be turned on in order for the HDCP handshakes to work.

The reason I ask is that last night, I powered on my Xbox first, my receiver was already on but selected to blu-ray as an input source, then my projector. I noticed that my 360 turned itself off. I turned it back on and when I didn't see a picture on my screen I realized that I had it to the wrong input source. When I changed my receiver to Xbox 360's input source, then I saw the Xbox 360 splash screen show up.

However, when using the xbox for games and movies, I was getting no sound through my center speaker. I checked the test tones through the receiver's menu and I was able to get sound. Even when I streamed movies I got no sound through the center speaker. The receiver's display showed that there was a 5.1 signal present. I double checked the settings on the xbox and it was set to digital audio.

So I turned off the Xbox and then the receiver, then turned on the receiver first, then turned on the Xbox, and then everything was working fine.

My guess would be that it should not matter, since I have never seen any directives to that effect in my Owner Manuals.

But reality is that sometimes it does matter. And because it should not, I have and will always assume that these are hardware or software bugs, including a bad HDMI cable.

Because these are bugs, how to circumvent them is not documented, and are device-dependent and may even be random.

My GoFlex has handshaking issues with my Denon: The A/V periodically blanks out for 1-2 seconds every 3-5 seconds, until either I start a video stream, or I pause it, or I change source on the receiver and come back, or even power cycle one of them. I had both a Canadian and an American GoFlex do this on both my Denon Receiver and an LG TV. I think this rules out manufacturing defect and points to a GoFlex mass problem.

HDMI was a good ideeyer, but why they had to add so much software and timings complexity to it is beyond me. Why is it they can't develop a new technology without adding problems?
