The Hsu Research sub I owned was a VTF-3 HO Turbo, 500 watt vs. the Mk3.3 with a 350 watt amp. Not sure how big a difference this makes. The HO would really kick it out, and was musical too.
I sent the Bravus 12D back because at VERY high volume leves it would distort. Now bear in mind I'm a BASS JUNKIE and It would never bottom out, just distort a bit. This was at levels lower than the HO, and I NEVER EVER bottomed out the woofer in the HO.
Alas, with Piano Black finish, shipping and maybe tax I paid a bit over $1800.00 for my SVS PB-13 Ultra. This sub is in a league of its own. Not as musical as the Bravus 12D, but twice the output with ease. A very good subwoofer for movies and music, but the Bravus 12D was more musical. The Ultra sounds great, and when pushed just goes on and on, with easily twice the output of the Bravus 12D, yet twice as large, and more expensive.
Remember I'm a bass junkie, so I play my sub a little "warrmer" than most, crossed over at 80 Hz. and never enough to muddy up the nidrange at all. But I paid big bucks for my subs and want to feel them at reference music levels, or around 90 Dbs. peaks at 100 maybe. And not that loud for long.
The Bravus 12D is a great sub, it sounds so good, but in a larger room two may be needed. The display is smal and hard to read, and the remote was useless to me because I'm disabled, a quadriplegic. If you want a great sounding small sub, try one. Aperion has great customer service and will pay shipping both ways for 30 days.
