I recently developed a habit of not responding to the guy, no matter how tempted. The sad fact is, and I admit, I kind of agree with the points he made in his last couple of posts (even #18 to a point) but definitely not the way he made them.
Exactly the same for me. He was often right about technical matters, but so very wrong with his presentation. Whenever he was in argumentative mode, it didn't pay to respond because he didn't listen.

You need room treatments and probably some equalization. :D
I actually have four 24" x 48" x 4" ATS acoustic panels under my daughter's bed.

Does that count?:D

But I am using a $50 pioneer receiver in PURE DIRECT mode to get the best possible unadulterated sound.

I may have to hit that Bass Booster EQ button.:D

If you are serious about sound quality you really should hear the Infinity P362 before finalizing your decision. I have never listened to the Aperion model you are considering but I would be very surprised if they can do better than the Infinity. My comments are based on comparing them side by side with my much more expensive speakers. For classical music they lost by a wide margin but other than that they held their own very well.

Honestly, you really can't find a much more demanding medium for good speakers than classical/acoustic music. If the speakers didn't sound good for classical, then I wouldn't purchase them. It means there are some strong shortcomings. The P362 speakers may be solid speakers for their price point. But, if they can't reproduce classical well then I would look elsewhere. It seems the OP is wanting a very good musical reproduction.

While my Aperions are older, I would imagine that the current line is as good or better than what I have. The company offers a wonderful 30 day trial period with shipping both ways.

OP - order yourself a set of 6B speakers, if you can front the money and go from there. It really is a good deal for speaker purchasing. You get a chance to hear them at your home and not in a store setup which is often not realistic.

As for the finish becoming damaged in college. Kick your roommate's *** the first time any damage occurs when you're not around and you should have no problems. :D

I did not say they couldn't reproduce classical well. Incidentally I am listening one of my favorite Violin Concerto at this moment, and is enjoying it. I said comparing them with my much more (>8 times without adjusting for inflation) expensive speakers there was a wide margin if classical music is used for the comparison. I actually meant a wider (not wide) margin, that was my mistake but it was easier to say "wide" grammatically:D the way I composed that post. It is mainly how it reproduces the violin, and I may be bias as I used the 802D as reference for how violin and strings in general should sound. FYI, many people on this forum do not like the 800 series. I am among the few who do, as I thought the 800 series speakers reminded me of how I enjoyed live classical concerts. I purchased my $3,300 speakers after convincing myself that it sounded most similar to the 802D.:) and they barely passed the WAF in terms of price and look. Typically I do not believe in hypes and hearsays such as how important it is to have an Oppo for DVD upscaling, ACD power etc., but I was nicely surpised by the P362 after purchasing a pair purely out of curiousity. The P362 are real deals, and I thank those who have been telling others about them. I would have never known that a <$400 a pair speakers can be that good. I may have to sell them though as I have enough speakers without them.

That is a big plus for sure. At the <$1000 price range it is almost impossible to audition speakers in a decent envirnoment with suitable electronics without taking them home.

I didn't know you got them but am glad to hear that you think them worth while. Rickster71 heard mine but failed to be complimentary. He's been listening to Sig8's so he might have been thinking that if you can't say anything nice ... ;)

Seriously, after modding mine to some degree I think they might do better with reproducing violin than stock as I have silenced the magnetic shields. Beyond that I have 4 different (5 if you count flat) EQ curves that I can apply to them on the fly. Playing the Sophie-Anne Mutter Blu-ray for some friends had them absolutely mesmerized even though they are not classical fans.

Maybe you could take one of your Infinities and come up with some practical recommended mods that are relatively easy to do and then A/B it against the stock one. Put that engineering degree to good use. :)

Pat: Have you heard the Infinities? As you know I have a pair of Aperion Intimus 5DB's. I can definitely see the promise of great sound from their more substantial offerings not to mention the stunning beauty of their cabinets. I don't know about anybody else but I do listen with my eyes and the sexy piano black finish brings me to tears. However if I was blinded and had a fixed budget for speakers and did not yet have external amplification, the Infinities would be my pick until I could afford better sounding and looking speakers and until I did have adequate amplification.

I was tempted by the original S8 but settled for the Veritas. To me, no major difference except the Veritas is weaker in bass.

I should tell you something you are not going to believing I would ever say this. After listening to them for a few weeks, the violin is sounding better. I still think it is just because I have got used to them. Now the facts (to me anyway), they do sound better at lower listening volume, very detailed but not bright so yes I do believe they can be modified to do better with Orchestral strings.

No time right now, I did not specialize in audio/radio electronics and I would like to do a lot of reading before taking up such a hobby. I will eventually, so I may just keep them for later.:D

No. I haven't heard them. I was going off of what other individuals said earlier in the thread. I wish I could afford the time and money to go hear all the speakers talked about on this forum.
