I'm a fan of Yamaha but that's because I'm familiar with their product. It really comes down to features that you "must" have and perhaps Aesthetics (that Marantz sure does look sharp!). If you do a comparative search on Amazon & Newegg you can get a feel for which products have had failures/problems. Pick one with the least failures that has the feature set you like.

Good luck!

I'm also a fan of Yamaha owning an RX-v1800 and I lean towards the A2000. But based on looks, that Marantz is by far the best looking audio receiver out there bar none.

If you must have HDMI1.4, 3D capable, Audyssey multi EQ XT32, ABT VP then it is the one to get for that price range. Otherwise the Denon AVR4310 is superior for less, or the Yamaha suggested here, for much less.

The A2000 also provides mutipoint eq in its YPAO.

Hi,

Multi-point YPAO starts at the HTR-7063 and RX-A800 level and above.

I'll add my two cents and say that I noticed an increase in detail and smoother highs when we recently replaced an Onkyo 876 with a Marantz 7005 in one of our sound rooms.

I've never heard the Denon 4310 but I would bet it's fairly comparable with the Onkyo 876.

I really appreciate the word "would" and "bet". For example, I would bet you "could" be fooled to believe the 4311, 876 were the 7005 if you could not see which one was playing.:D

Anyway, it is my opinion(only an opinion) that there are ways to compare specs objectively and analytically and try to make some sense, but there isn't much sense in comparing sound quality or how much details each of those specific models could convey to the average public. It is simply too much of a subjective/perceptive matter. For such group of mid range AVRs, I don't believe engineers aimed to design a specific amount of details into their products. They typically design to given specs.

I hear you, but I think there is value in offering a subjective opinion, which was what my post was and I didn't intend for it to be taken as anything more than that.
