Anyone use "alternative" fuels to heat their homes?

I had resistive heating in an apartment in college. Sometime around when I moved in (August time frame, so still hot outside in Illinois), I was testing it out and clicked it on to make sure that it worked. I then forgot that I turned it on and left for the day.

Upon opening the door that night, and about the same time that I felt my skin begin to melt, I swear that I saw some free floating plasma just before the fusion reaction. Holy ish, it was hot in there.
I installed 2 furnaces in a house about 3 years ago, they were planning an addition so the units were way over sized, it probably called for $85K BTU and both units combined made over 200K BTU's!!! Well it as in Mass. so I had to get a mass licensed electrician to wire the unit and the property owner wanted to use his electrician cousin, Long story short, he wired the tt contacts closed and the units ran non stop for an entire week until they ran out of oil, when they came back after a couple weeks it had been off for a week and all the candles in the house were melted, oil paintings were damaged, and it got so hot the under mounted sink that had not been toggled in yet dropped off the counter because the silicone softened... I thought it was pretty funny, 600 gallons of oil in a week, lol...
