Its been a long time...

I used to own an Oneida Screamin Eagle...

I figured, my son is out of the house and I have much more time on my hands these days, so why not get back into shooting again....

Picked up a Mathews Reezen 7.0.... Older Model, but left over stock, got a great deal :)

Dealer set it up with all my add ons, took it out for a spin in their range....
Total Thumbs up, super fast and accurate.... very little vibration....
Woman had such a fun time she bought a bow as well...

I'll have to figure out a way to take some pics of it of my own all loaded up.... Looks great.

I've done a bit of archery, nothing serious with fancy bows like those though :p

I was in the Pocono's with my girlfriend and some mutual friends, and we bought a cheap little crossbow. It was very powerful, and very poorly made. I was loading one of the bolts when it spontaneously shot off. My girlfriend was holding it, but she said she didn't pull the trigger. It left a nice deep cut on my finger, and hurt like hell.

Archery seems like fun though. I'd like to get into it at some point. Maybe this summer :)

I bow hunted for about twenty years; compounds were just coming out, but were too pricey back then. (for me)
Still have my trusty 50lb. Bear re-curve.:)

We have the same deer problem in our yard. I borrowed a buddy's game camera a few years ago; that's how we saw how many visitors were feeding on our shrubs and flowers. We put out corn deeper in the woods to distract them from our landscaping. They still come up on our front porch and eat the potted flowers.

That raccoon would make a nice hat. One of those hats with an arrow going through it.

This Mexican buddy of mine would have no problem throwing el bandito there up on a grill.

I went to high school with a girl who was bordering on being of Olympic caliber in archery but this was in Canada. Those guys are shooting from 70 meters away. That can't be easy. If it was me shooting the only safe thing 70 meters away from me would be the target. :D

I was thinking the same thing about "el bandito" becoming a hat!:D

I have never hunted at all let alone bow hunting, but I like the idea of target shooting with a gun and/or a bow. My bro in law hunts with a cross bow and I know lots of hunters are divided on if using a cross bow is sporting...the meat is good though.:)

Did you get that at Gander Mtn, Cabela's or the place on Burleigh?

Archery- don't nock it until you've tried it.:D

Some friends have a Vizla (a somewhat deer-looking dog breed) and when we were on a camping trip, their 4 y.o. son brought out his little bow & arrows. She mentioned that she was trying to come up with a Halloween outfit for him and after looking at the boy & dog, I mentioned that she could get an "arrow through the head" to put on the dog's body and rubber deer antlers to put on its head so he could go as a tiny deer hunter.

I'll find out if she took any photos.

I have gone out hunting with my Screamin Eagle, but never had the opportunity to shoot anything. But I've always enjoyed target shooting. I got really proficient with that older bow. 30, 40 , 50 yards 2" grouping easy... Just for a silly $50 bet with a buddy I shot a 100 yard shot through an old barn window (no glass) and hit it dead center.... There was a big old empty oil tank behind that window and it rang like a bell when I hit it... I still never saw that $50.... :)

Don't NOCK it !!!! :) Good one....

I wanted a higher quality bow, better then what they offer at the big stores and I also wanted to bring the business to a local place so I got my bow at West Town Archery on Burleigh.... They were great guys there and spent alot of time with me testing out different products. I was looking all their used bows, but none of them really fit me right, and the Mathews Reezen just felt good to me and was very comparable to how my old bow felt for me.... Obviously a huge improvement though.... Also looked at the Mathews Z7 but It just wasn't as comfy as the Reezen for my frame size... I didn't mind the larger 7.0 size, as I don't really plan to sit in a tree and the Reezen was plenty light and powerful... super fast !!!!

I got a really really nice limb saver Prism sight, Ripchord Code Red fall away arrow rest, peep sight, Mathews Quiver, some carbon arrows, wrist release, the whole nine yards... So far - very happy with my time with it.... just wicked fast... They have the coolest range there with the huge targets on automatic rolling target returns.

The Bow was more powerful then I expected, I was puttin arrows in to just about the fletching at 15 yards... I shot enough to get the sights dialed in for me and got it very close, lots of bulls eyes at 20 yards...

The woman didn't want to spend nearly as much as I did on my bow, so we headed out to Cabela's and she got a nice woman/child starter kit for cheap... I think that was a very good move for her until she's ready to upgrade to something better if at all....

I don't hunt but I still have an old double re-curve Bear bow from the late '60s- 35 lb pull, IIRC. Last time I went to a range was with someone I worked with and he had a compound bow. His shot the arrows in a straight line and mine looked like I was shooting a squirt gun because of the arc. I think it may have lost some of its spring, although it has never gotten particularly hot. The arrows used to go through the hay bales at Kletsch Park and that time, they almost bounced off.

I have a bow that I haven't shot in years. I couldn't even tell you the brand or anything about it. I just remember the finish on it is metallic blue. I used to go to a local outdoor range and shoot at targets, but I would never hunt with it. Every once in a while I think about taking it up again.

If you're going deer hunting, have you thought of outfitting that bow with a good pair of Philips Halogen Headlights? Then you can be as noisy as you want and the deer will run towards you or simply freeze allowing you to get right up close to them and take a good shot.

Those deer cam pics are literally 30 ft off my hot tub deck... I'll be takin out deer in my swim trunks... :)
Right after I put the deer cam in, I bought a 400w Metal Halide light and mounted it on the back of my house, lights up the whole back yard like day time... :) Thanksgiving early evening while we were eating dinner, a few doe's showed up for dinner, the light didn't bother them a bit.... :)

I hope you're kidding with this. If not, that's freakin' lame. Personally I think hunting is stupid, but if you're going to do it, then do it for real. Don't use bullshit cheating tactics like freezing deer. Scopes, camo, decoys, bird calls and stuff are for *******. Go out there in a loin cloth with a hand-made bow and then take down an animal if you want your manliness jollies. At least then you're being real about it.

Personally I think hunting is stupid,
It's understandable that some may not understand or like hunting.
Though there are valid reason that the Dept of the Interior / Fish & Game allow it.

The biggest reason is to control populations that don't self regulate.
During times of plentiful food & mild weather animal populations explode. During drought and hard winters these same animals suffer a slow agonizing death, because of a finite amounts of food and water.

As food grows more scarce, deer roam further in search of it; this increases the number of car / deer collisions.
Hunting thins the herd, to lessen car / deer collisions.
State Farm, the nation’s leading auto insurer estimates 2.4 million collisions between deer and vehicles occurred in the U.S. during the two-year period between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2009 (100,000 per month). http://www.statefarm.com/about/media/media_releases/20090928.asp

Maybe instead of hunting them, we should teach them about safe sex and preventing pregnancies by using birth control :D

Just pointing out the obvious to anyone who lives around deer how suicidal they are. My wife, on the way to work, was parked at a red light. In the Dunkin Donuts across the street was a cop parked in his car (I know...stereotypical). As she waited for the light to change, a deer ran past the officer's car and smack into my wife's damaging both the driver's front quarter panel and hood. Cop couldn't believe it.

Deer are plentiful in many areas of the country and everyone I know that hunts them eats venison and often donates what they can't use to food banks. I frankly don't care what means they use to kill them so long as it respects the law. That goes for bears too.
