Anyone Own or Listened to M&K K-7 or K-17?

I am narrowing my list of upgrade candidates for my home theater and want to know if anyone has experience with the K-7/K-17 M&Ks.

My HT is 1300 SqFt3 and 99% HT, HD Sports and XBox 360.

A LCR K-17 with K-4 Tripole surround setup is within my budget, has a very good (but older) review on Secrets, and is about the same price as the Axiom setup recommended here.

It is easy to demo AV123, Ascend and Axiom - but I am probably going to have to make a special trip next time I am in SoCal on business to hear the M&K.

So, should I make the trip to Chatsworth to hear the M&Ks?

The K7 is a nice speaker. The difference between it and the K17 is the K17 has a better tweeter. Both are nice speakers. My setup used to be K7 center, K5 L/R, & K4 surrounds, before I started upgrading. They are great sounding speakers for their size. Bear in mind you must use a subwoofer with them as they are a 4" speaker and aren't rated below 80hz. These are rated for 200w at 4ohms and I found them very easy to drive to loud levels - still sounding great.

Some people find them to be a bit bright, personally I like the way they sound and still have them in my bedroom. As you can tell by my signature, I like M&K. If you are going to be near their HQ, I say go by and check them out for yourself. Or see if there is a dealer in your area and try them there.

I don't have any personal experience with the other speakers you mentioned. I believe that axiom has owners who will allow you stop by and check them out if you go to the forums on Axioms website.

Thanks Jack. I think I have seen you name on just about every M&K thread I searched before posting. :)

I will pair whatever I buy with one or two Rocket ULW-10 subs.

I came across the k-7/k-17 while looking at the LCR750s. The 750s were beyond my budget, and I figure the k-17 would fill a small space sufficiently. Heck, I only sit 8 feet from my front speakers.

Listening to the lobby scene in the Matrix on them will tell me if they are too bright. I am deaf to high frequencies in my left ear so my right ear is VERY sensitive to brightness.

How big was the room you used them in before moving them to the BR?

Ascend Acoustics is run/owned by a former M&K engineer/designer. The Ascends aren't as bright as the M&Ks as Ascend designs for music too and isn't trying for THX specs.

That Onix sub is a great music sub but for HT it doesn't go that low or loud.

Thanks Tex. I have a CB-170 LCR/HTM-200 surround setup spec'd as one of my options for audition.

The ULW-10 was my best option for subs becasue of space contraints. I just couldn't squeeze a PB10 in there. (Like I said, the room is only 1300 ft3.) The one ULW-10 I have can still shake you in your seat and I can stack another one on top later.

The LCR 750's are nice speakers. I used my K7 as a center with my LCR850's for around 6 months til I got the matching center. It worked nicely with them, but wasn't a perfect match. The 750's turn up used on eBay quite often at a reasonable price.

Here is a diagram of my place. My ceiling are just under 7' tall. I used them int the front half which is about 8.5' x 10' ( the actual room was longer at ~22').

That sucks if it's true. They make a great product. I was just going to sell some of my speakers because I recently upgraded. I wonder how this would affect resale value?

With no support availible it is going to hurt the resale value.
