anyone have a hk avr635 that works right!

i'm on my second 635 in 1.5 months & now the new one doesn't work. it mysteriously shuts off. if i turn it on from stand-by mode, it shuts off in 2-3 seconds. if i reset the processor, it will work for about 30 minutes then shut & stop working again.

i returned the first 635 after i attempted the upgrade which failed...causing the 635 to not even turn on...

the few days i had the new one working, it sounded great!!! even though it would never remember the surround settings (version 4.05).

i really don't see how i'm going to get a better receiver for the money i paid for this one...but i also need something the wife can easily use, & the way it's going, doesn't look like hk has anything to offer...

Keep sending them back. Sooner or later, they'll upgrade you to the 640 or 645. There's a huge thread over at AVS concerning all the issues HK is having with their latest 745 unit. What a shame. At least HK's customer service is top notch. I'd tell them you're losing valuable listening time, to throw you an upgrade.

I've had mine for a little over a year and have had some minor annoyances. A few times it shut itself off for no reason, but I could turn it back on with the remote and it would stay on. It hasn't done that in several months. On a few occasions it wouldn't respond to either the remote or to the front panel controls. This included the power switch, so I had to unplug it. After plugging it back in, it worked fine. It hasn't done this in several months either. I have not upgraded it, but plan to do so soon since it fixes the other annoyances like losing my surround settings.

You've indicated that yours is version 4.05. How did you determine that?

with the unit off...press the Tone Mode & RIGHT arrow buttons (behind the front panel) at the same time...then it will display the version #...
