actually i never said the sonys had better bass nor was i comparing them to sonys, leave the sonys out of the discussion because they have nothing to do with the demo. and fyi the sonys do not boom at all, the only brand of speakers i have heard that actually "boom" are KLH, which suprised me because i heard fairly decent things about KLH, the speakers sounded so crappy i threw them out. secondly i was comparing them to a couple of polks, i demoed two different sets of each speaker brand, i dont remember the exact models and the reason i only demoed one at a time was because the guy who was letting me demo them was too stupid to figure out how to hook both up at once and would not let me mess with it. the polks i know were the "monitor" series, they had 5 1/2" woofers, while the klipsch had 6 1/2" drivers, the klipsch also had taller cabinets, but i dont know if that would make a difference, yes, of course both sounded 10x better then the sony i have. but in comparison, the polks had better mids and bass whilst the klipsch seemed to have really really good highs, they werent "bad" sounding or anything, it just surprised me the bass was not as powerful as the polks that were smaller. im the kind of person who wont buy a floorstander unless it can handle itself with bass, the problem with the klipsch was that they had the bass output of a large bookshelf, not what i expected from a floorstander. klipsch speakers are very effecient though, the percieved volumed seemed 50% louder at the same volume level of the receiver then the polks. klipsch speakers also sound very bright. my whole point is that they would require a subwoofer and could not handle the low end on their own. i also did not have much of a choice as far as the room they were demoed in, they were demoed right on the store floor but both were demoed in a relatively same place. and i am not bashing klipsch at all, i am sharing my thoughts on them.
