Anyone else underwhelmed by BluRay?

Yep, try it out. I didn't know my set was HDCP compliant until I tried it, and thankfully it is.

I do agree with being overwhelmed, but fortunately there are cheaper alternatives on the market now. You just have to do your research!

Oh man, I'm a shmuck. Duh, I can still use the HDMI out on the PS3. I'll just use that HDMI-to-DVI cable I already have and just switch my S77 to component video.

The S77 won't upconvert over component video - only HDMI.

You can pick up some very inexpensive, but good, HDMI switchers at www.monoprice.com I use their 5x1 HDMI switcher all the time... Okay, only two installs so far, but it's worked great on both of them!

I actually never used the upconverting feature. It didn't look any better on my TV. Just good 'ol 480p for me. Plus, now that I have the PS3, I think the S77 will be relegated to CD player duty. I can just play my BD's and regular DVD's through the PS3.

Now that I think about it, since I've already been using the cable to send video from my S77, doesn't that mean that my TV is HDCP compliant? Or is there a difference in the video signal coming from my S77 as opposed to the PS3?

It may, as the PS3 is 1.3 and the S77 was not. Only one way to find out

Oh well, it didn't work. The HDMI-to-DVI cable worked fine for games. But for some reason, when I tried to play a BD disc or DVD, the screen went light pink. Oh well, I just put everything back. Of course that was a total pain in the ***. Every time I put the S77 back in the cabinet, the HDMI cable would come disconnected!

Then I had to reprogram my Harmony. Guess I should have left well enough alone.
