Anybody mind critiquing my website?

Aside from the site appearing to load slowly (could just be me) I would like to see measurements which you mentioned you had. To me that is always a good sign that a manufacturer takes their product seriously and is interested in testing them. Obviously that doesn't mean that what a manufacturer chooses to display is accurate or honest, but it's nice to see. (I'm not implying yours would be fudged)

Photographically speaking, the lighting on some of the speakers is too harsh, and in general it looks like some of them were shot with on camera flash creating some hot spots in the images. I think they deserve some more carefully taken glamor shots! :)

For the cable stilts page, on the picture caption "...acting to increase capacatince..." this is misspelled and should be capacitance.

Like the page layout though. It's clean looking and easy to navigate.

Donating stuff for the monthly give-aways woudl be great! I have a few things in mind, maybe even a pair of speakers ... a cheaper pair obviously

I have tried contacting the admins on 3 occasions, but have not heard back. Like I've said before, I've ran HUGE forums myself and it was my job to reply to advertising requests. I know how it goes, PM's are a pain to answer, so they often go unreplied. But like I told people on my sites, if I don't reply, keep harassing me and eventually you'll get a reply. So if an Admin see's this, here's another request ... I'd like to advertise!

Thanks for all the critique guys, some good insight and I appreciate your time to post it here.
Ryan;

I haven't seen any emails requesting info about advertising. Feel free to contact me directly at gds@audioholics.com

As for critiques, here are mine:
  • you should include an area for pro review and consumer review quotes
  • you seem to get into the cable esoteric nonsense a bit too much (ie. speed of cable, cable elevators, listening tests of rca terminations, etc) which may appeal to some audiophiles, but also turn off people more well versed in engineering many of whom visit this site
  • your speakers look nice, though a bit pricey and a challenge to a company trying to establish a foothold for online sales, you may want to offer more value type products to create a buzz on the forums so people gravitate towards your higher end stuff
  • you have no shopping cart that I can find on this website, no method or ordering any of your products without placing a call
  • your contact info is obscured at bottom of site in red field, this needs to be more upfront with a phone# on every page

I just figured out that you're responsible for that speaker and not the rest of that mumbo jumbo about wires and such. In that case I want to I want to congratulate you for offering the various venneers. Differentiating between Quartersawn Sapele and Ribbon Stripe Mahogany is impressive. Sapele has been marketed as and mistaken for mahogany often.

Unlike the fancy wire on that site, you do quote a price. That's good too. As was mentioned before, spec's are a must. I'm sure that you have the ability to provide detailed ones and probably already have them but if not, just make something up. It'll be between you and me. :)

Best of luck,
Alex

Thanks Alex, my family has been here all weekend so I haven't been able to reply. But I did plan on posting what you said, that I'm only responsible for the speakers of BPT. I've said it here a few times before, and just assumed people remembered ... my fault.

I put the new website together, but all the info other than speakers was from Chris ... not I. He does make good stuff, and whether you agree with the value of those products or not, his profit margins are razor thin on even the "mumbo jumbo" stuff, so you can't accuse him of profiteering. He has a ton of happy customers who come to him for value, and we work well together.

Veneering is maybe more than anything what I love about building speakers. There's just something fascinating and beautiful about the incredible variety that nature provides. I can only imagine what the first person who sliced open one of those ugly knotty growths on a tree thought when they saw what was inside  I hope every buyer wants custom veneer options, it makes building them even more fun ... even though it slows the ordering process substantially.

My first instinct was to put up tons of measurments, on and off axis FR, distortion at different drive levels, high-res impedance curve, accelerometer readings, etc. With a Clio 8 setup I could innundate the site reader with that info, but I think it'll be a work in process to decide what our real potential buyers care about.

I very much appreciate all the time people have taken thus far to post site critique. I'll take it all to heart and keep working ...

I Like the site Ryan. It could use a couple of things but they have been said already several times. I am sure you will get it together. You have been doing the forum thing for a while, you know what people want as well. But it looks great. I would like to see the photos not whited out though....:D

Yep. The photos whited out was distracting, as was how they turned into giant whole screen pics when clicked on. They look like wonderful speakers! I am not in the market for a stand mounted speaker, but do you offer speaker stands for sale, or reccomend stands that would work well with your offerings!? Also, these are made in America? If yes, nothing like a red white and blue Made in the USofA to make me feel good about buying a product.
