Rat Shack has a little Sherwood on sale for $80. That's new-in-box with full warranty and it's got enough power to drive most speakers (including vintage)one would realistically (pun intended) consider pairing with it.

I've recommended these to friends in the past and have no regrrets. Neither do my friends. It ain't high end (whatever that is) but for a newbie it's a tremendous way to get yer feet wet.

They also have a pair of small Sony speakers for $35/pair but since I've never heard them I won't say much more.

I agree 105 RMS will drive most speakers. Good price from Radio Shack on Sherwood RX-4109 Stereo Receiver $79

Only problem is "Out of Stock" online.

I found the ad in the Sunday newspaper pullout.

And these are designed to creat walk-in traffic into their local stores.

I would hope that if one were really interested in availing themselves of this opportunity, they would hie themselves to a local store. It's not like they are rare and/or too hard to find.

I believe Circuit City has this on sale quite often as well. I bought this and a pair of Mission m70's from TSTO for $69.99 as a Christmas gift for my nephew last year. Pretty dang good system for $150.

True

This is the first I've heard of the Shak selling this. The reason I posted this is that the Shak is a lot more local for most people than Circuit City.

Resurrecting this old thread after a quick search function exercise. :D

I'm thinking of getting one for the hell of it. Or maybe as a nice gift. Hm. It's dropped to $59.99.

Gotta love Black Friday pricing! That's exactly what I paid for a 6 wpc Lafayette LA-224a tube stereo amp back in 1964 or thereabouts.
