I thought it would be a replacement for their long running "Smallville" but it seems more like a take-off on Christopher Nolan's dark Batman trilogy.

No, it's not a bright and optimistic origin story like Smallville but it does have a lot of action and an intriguing back story, which will apparently be revealed over time.

It starts with a hero with fully developed skills and seems to be slowly filling us in, through flashbacks, as to what happened to the rich, spoiled, philandering, Oliver Queen on a mysterious island where he would up "stranded" for five years after his yacht went down and he lost his father tha turned him into an avenging angel type with an agenda and a secret to hide from everyone, or so it seems..

Oh, there seems to be a "no super powers" mind set with this show so I expect a lot of action and martial arts/parkour type action, not to mention lots of trick arrows. Also, they seem to be incorporating a lot of names from the DC universe here, although don't expect any "super" heroes, just extremely well developed physical combat skills.

Yeah, I like it. IT's fun. ...lots of action with a touch of humor on occasion. Yes, it can be somewhat hokey at times, but it's fun, intriguing, and fast moving. Heck, it's a fast moving action TV show, not a PBS series in medieval times with castles, stilted accents, and frilly shirts. Well, there IS a castle.... sort of
