Any Women in these forums who love Ht? Do we need Waf Ratings?

My wife and I just looked at a Shanling CD100-C with tubes glowing and all - we both got excited. I could hook up a garden hose to it and that dang thing would still look cool. Although I think she would draw the line with the garden hose.

Interesting question. But as you should know, there are a million different answers to it since every woman is different.

I love my HT setup & the sound is the most important factor to me. Not that everything should match, be small/hidden & unobtrusive. But then I grew up surrounded by music so that plays a large part in my choices.

I knew as I matured that I HAD to HAVE a decent stereo system. So once I started working I started putting one together until I have what I have now.

None of it matches, it is not especially pretty, but it is neat & organized. And most importantly sounds terrifc!!!

While my brothers' former girlfreind appreciated the sound of it, she didn't like the decor and said she would NEVER be able to have it look like that. But then again, until I introduced her to some REAL speakers by Polk, she thought Bose was the be all to end all!

But if given a choice between Polk & Bose or any other full size speakers, she will take the Bose cause they are nice & small. And she cares more about the looks then the sound.

I had no idea. My dad has that same Cinema Grand amp, very nice until recently when it took a dump.:( Thing had a good run, it was on all the time and one of the caps went.

I have never met a woman audio/video enthusiast, this is a first for me.:D

I know, I'm lame.

My wife never posts but she reads all the threads connected to anything I write. She takes notes and casts voodoo curses on anyone that bashes me. FYI.

:D ROFLMAO!!! We are out there Seth. It's just that we are not obsessed with this hobby. It is simply another part of our daily life. We make changes when we need or want them then sit back & enjoy it.

You guys get something & listen for 2 seconds & decide to get something else, or tweak this or change that! It's not about the music for you it's about the new gear.

For me it's all about the music. My main speakers are 17yrs old & still sound great. I had a stereo only system for 12 yrs until I upgraded to my current Denon which is 6 yrs old.

I only upgraded because I wanted to get into HT. I then decided I wanted to get new speakers but my Denon can't handle a 4ohm load. So I got my first 200wpc 2 chnl amp. It made such a huge difference I have decided to keep my old speakers since they sound better than they ever had. I have since gotten the Sunfire for all 5 channels & I couldn't be happier!:)

:D :D :D :D

I am the coordinator of the HT and I like all cables tucked away and neat more so than the female in my life, but I call on her help as she has more experience with "low cost practical aplication of tidyness". I mean by this she can help me hide the wires without me going out and spending money on someone or something to do it lol.

I am lucky. She cares more about sound and we both have similar taste in what we like to see. "Honey go with the towers they look fine", "I like the bigger ones they sounded better", "it's your room do what you want." That said she has her limit when it comes to $$$ I went 500 over my budget so I took her out to dinner to prove I could spend money on her too.... But I got into a grey area.... How can I rationalize an engagement ring for less than my speaked
DOH!
lol
Hahaha I am the same way as you. I am in charge of the HT completely and am a neat freak about it. I did not quite go 500 over budget but a few hundred and when I told my girl she looked shocked, looked at my stupid smile and was fine with it she did not even mind the speakers even though they weren't her favorite, to big and such.

When it comes to the ring well its just a ring hah thats the way I feel and I guess I am lucky enough to know thats the way she feels. At least a sound system does something

Ha ha, :D, nice.:)

Until recently it was mostly about the equipment and the dynamic abilities I could show off to my guests. Now I am more intuitive to the music and the movie and find I am enjoying it much more than I use to. I have been using my bedroom system primarily because I can relax and not be disturbed while listening. I have the speakers set-up correctly and as well the subwoofer. I may move away from 5.1 all together, then again maybe not. Quality stereo reproduction is satisfying.:D I am fighting the upgraditus and I think I am winning the battle.:)

I like having the flexibility of being able to listen in 2 chnl or 5.1. But then I only have 1 system for both & I love listening in multichannel so I will always have a combo system.

There are great benifits to having two systems. If you want seclusion you can move to a room for audio only or a bedroom for that. Bedrooms and audio only rooms are personal, at least I think they are.;)

Maybe it should be called tidiness factor?

Okay, I finally got my account working, so now I can stop lurking and post a reply to this thread... :D

I think having WAFs is informative, but may be misnamed. Personally, though I care about the look of my HT components, sound comes first. If you can get great sound and a nice appearance, then that's the best of all worlds. But the reason I think WAF may be misnamed is because, as others have already pointed out on this thread, there are some hubbies out there who care about the look of their system more than their wives.

Seems like what WAF really refers to is how "tidy" a sound system looks, so perhaps it should be renamed tidiness factor to avoid giving those male neat freaks out there a complex. ;)

Lady Phoenix welcome to the site, a ladie's perspective is always appreciated, for some crazy reason this hobby is always thought as a boys- only- club.

Yes, welcome, a rarity:D
Some of us do like neatness and a clean look.

Thanks for the welcome!

One other thought on WAF... Seems like it also sometimes refer to how much a system costs. But I've got to imagine that both men and women feel like that's an acceptance factor to consider. Unless you're lucky like me and my hubbie and you both have the same price in mind, that is!

I would have to say half of my problems are finding speakers and or components that match or contrast the cherrywood floors I have, in addition to sounding good.

I am just awaiting the day when we can do away with ALL the wires. I go through so much trouble just hiding all the wiring then find out I need to change something. It's extremely frusturating.

Ha, the more and more I get into this hobby, the more and more I apperciate being single...rotf.....
