Any under $600 receivers that provide 5.1 channel HDMI audio?

Being that I have yet to purchase any of the x05 series I can't say definitivity that there is a problem with low volume listening but based on my experience with Onkyo receivers I'm inclined to doubt it.

They use something they call Optimum Gain Volume circuitry and while I am not sure exactly what that means, I can say that all of the receivers I have owned are stellar at low volumes. As it gets later in the night I tend to turn the volume lower and lower. My lowly 502 uses the absolute volume scale (0-80) and I can hear it clearly as low as 8 on the scale when it is late at night and the ambient noise is low.

BTW where are you guys getting a $350 price figure from? I can't find that anywhere.

What are you referring to? If you mean the Yamaha, you can find those cheap all over the place. I got mine off eBay. Make sure you DO NOT buy from Art of Sale though. They shipped my receiver 4 days later than they said they would, then they gave me negative feedback because I left them neutral. Jerks!

I like the authorized dealer option. I pay a little more and get piece of mind. I think yamaha is likely to tell you to take a walk if you try to get service on a receiver purchased from an unauthorized dealer.

Yeah thats what I would rather do, especially since my credit card automatically adds another year warranty to that.

Hmm...the 605 just went on sale to $469 at circuit city. Little too early for me to buy though.

God damnit, I wanted to wait a bit before buying this but now it seems I have no choice :D It's just too tempting of an offer to pass up. Problem is I know for certain I am not getting my speakers for another month minimum, and I really hate to buy something and not use it for a long time.

Hmm...I wonder if I could use that 10% and that $40 at the same time? They don't seem to mutually exclude one another. It just says "select offers," and given the slight differing color of the two coupons its conceivable that the cashier wouldn't think they came from the same ad. That would be a good deal though, like $389 plus tax.

Wow its a good thing I just decided to finally place my order on this receiver this evening.

Circuit city is currently offering the Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver for $399 online. Then you can add coupon code LPAMPVKAJ4 for another $30 off. In store pickup for no shipping cost. $369.99 raw cost, $399.77 after taxes and all expenses (in Arizona.)

Get this deal while you can.

I'm a big fan of Harman Kardon's refurb site on ebay. I got a HK 445 w/ HDMI and USB support for just over 3 bills.

Anybody who has already bought an Onkyo 605 probably shouldn't read this as they'll probably be pissed off. :D

When I went into circuit city to pick this up, I also brought in a 10% off audio coupon found here and somehow or another the cashier turned that into $75 off of what I paid online (I am certain she made a calculation error somewhere as she had to do it by hand.) She was probably a manager too as I doubt one can get this kind of price drop without some kind of manager password. Anyways, have a look:

I think I am definitely going to keep this receiver at this price, in spite of the technical problems mentioned at AVS. Worst case scenario, I can just keep exchanging it until I get a good unit.

I recently got a 605 myself and I am VERY happy with it.

Everything works as advertised. Not one issue. Setup was easy and fun, the Audessy worked perfectly, though it turned the "double bass" on, unless that is the default. I didn't need that on, so I shut it off.

It doesn't run "hot". It seems rather normal to me temp wise...no where near as hot as my 360...and they are on opposite ends of my TV stand, so there is no issue for anything there.

Low volumes come through nice and clear. For late night viewing, I turn on "late night" and it lowers the bass while keeping the sound clear and understandable. I like this feature alot.

I have lowly Polks from 1998/1999 hooked up to it (RTi600 line fronts and similar line center and rears...nothing major just avg/below avg speakers-along with a new X-sub) and they sound better than they ever did...good enough so the Axioms I wanted aren't eating away at the part of my brain that tells me to buy BUY BUY!

I run one HDMI cable from my 605 to my 56" Sammy DLP and everything comes though nicely. I have a SA 8300HD-DVR cable box hooked up via HDMI, along with an Oppo 970 via HDI and my Xbox 360 via component and all work and sound great.

I got mine for under $500 delivered to my door, and that included a 5 year plan from CC also. So far, the value is great. One of the best purchases I ever made.

When I get the PS3, my little playland will be complete. :D

This thread is useless without the credit card number.:D

Either these things are selling like hotcakes or circuit city isn't stocking any more of them. I am trying to find another store to exchange it at (because of the popping and the HF issues mine is having) but practically all of the stores in the Phoenix valley are plumb out of them.

Or theres a third possibility - Onkyo is delaying shipments on new ones to fix the issues found in the first run?

Very possible they are having trouble keeping them in stock, or trying to work out quirks with it as well.

Have you tried AVS, they certainly must have a thread over there for Onkyo TX-SR605 by now, and I would also bet the thread is overwhelmingly long already.:D

Yeah, and nobody seems to have experienced an issue similar to mine there.

Damn, at first there were a few stores outside of my general area that had just a few, but now none of them do. Literally, I can't find a single store in pretty much any region that has them. The stores that flat out don't carry it simply say not available, whereas the ones that do normally carry it just say "out of stock."

I think there is a problem that is going on beyond the warehouse level, otherwise they would have more stores filled with them by now, not less. If I were to guess I would say that the manufacturer did a recall but hasn't announced anything public. This is exactly the same kind of behavior I see at staples every time we get a recall.
