Any reason to keep my Sony DVD player after Oppo BDP-83?

Here is my issue:

I have the Oppo BDP-83 BR player (love it!) but I also have a multi-disc (5) upconverting DVD player from Sony. Now that I have the Oppo is there any reason to keep it?

My previous line of reasoning was that I would use the DVD player for DVDs (380+) and use my Oppo for my growing BR collection. I figured I would keep mileage off of my Oppo. A friend of mine who also has the BDP-83 says I should worry about "the mileage" factor and that my old DVD player is a useless component.

What do you guys think?

Always good to have PLAN B.:D

Your Sony is now second in command, backing up your Oppo.:)

I would throw it in the closest and have it collect dust. By the time your OPPO does die, a new technology will be out anyway.

Guess you meant... I should NOT worry about the mileage factor...
I would keep the Sony player for your DVD collection though.

I have a few of my old players. I used my ancient Sony DVD player for CDs in a garage after it was sitting around in my closet for about 6 years doing nothing. My 2900 that was replaced by the Oppo is currently in my second system. If it works, find a use for it because I don't think anyone is going to pay much for it used :)

I would keep the Sony player for your DVD collection though.
?? One of the selling points of the Oppo is that it is one of the best upscaling players out there so DVDs look quite a bit better on it, so no, I wouldn't keep it (in my main system) for that purpose. It would just be taking up space then.

Can't you just use the Sony DVD player for another room?

I have 4 Sony DVD players in 4 different rooms - except for my HT room.:D

I have an Oppo player in another room.

If it plays CD's, and I'm 99.999% sure it does, a CD changer is nice to have for parties, if nothing else.

As j_garcia states above, one of the reasons to get the Oppo is because of its great up-conversion of DVDs. Use the Oppo for your DVDs.

Use the changer if you want to use the changer function (as markw suggests above, for playing CDs at a party). If you have a second TV somewhere in your house, you could use it there. If you have no need or desire for such uses, sell the Sony, though you won't get much for it. Or give it away to a poor friend or relative who could use it.

I play my DVD's on an HD-DVD player and save the PS3 for BR and games. Lord knows it could use the rest. Poor thing must have over 1000 hours on it by now. (and that's just the one game)

Yeah, my PS3 has been getting a Red Dead workout lately :D I actually bought my Oppo so that my PS3 could get a break once in a while too.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Maybe I can find another use for it. Or maybe donate it to good will or something.
