Hello,

I am going to purchase a Yamaha Rxv2500 in the next week and am leaning heavily towards using http://www.etronics.com/. The feedback I've read suggests that they are reliable and honest. Also, the details of the 5 year warranty are attractive. I can get the receiver, 5 year warranty and 2 day shipping to my home for about $825.

A Yamaha auth. dealer near my house will sell me one for $900 but the facotry warranty is only 1 year and if something serious breaks or goes wrong I'll have to ship it to a regional repair facility anyway.

Any thoughts, suggestions, rants, ramblings, shrieks, shouts, or even mindless blatherings about this topic will be appreciated.

Warm regards,

Eric

Better than average, but that price seems high at this stage of the game.

That unit should continually come down in price now that the new units are being rolled out. If I were purchasing the 2500, my goal would be around $650. The issue with Yamaha is the warranty. It's sad Yamaha does that in a free economy. The 5890 and 1500 models are are going for under $500.

The receiver is going for $669, 5 year warranty another $79 and $75 for 2 day air vs $45 for ground.

I'm contemplating purchasing from Etronics as well (since I'm finding myself doubting in my ability to get my local hi-fi store to sell me a Yamaha RX-V2500 as cheaply as I'd like, ~$800, which I think of as fair considering that it'll be replaced in a couple months and the RX-V4600 is out now).

However, reading the Philips warranty's Terms and Conditions, it appears that they can (not to say that they will) claim to have no responsibility on "Equipment sold without a manufacturer's warranty", which Etronics is doing. Nor do they cover damage caused by "power failure" even though they specifically claim to "[protect] against operational failure of a covered product if a failure occurs while properly connected", which is somewhat confusing. How nice they are is another matter, maybe they do "the right thing" most of the time :), I don't know.

Either way, I'm thinking I'll wait for the new Pioneer Elites to come out :)...

I bought my RX-V1500 from them just last month ironically deciding that the $200 savings was worth the risk (as compared to buying it at Tweeter) but admittedly I did overlook some of the fine print. Still, in working with the their customer service on an out of stock item they did seem genuinely concerned about customer satisfaction and so far I have definitely not regretted my purchase. (they have pretty high scores from BizRate as well which initially led me to them)

Well, always being the curious sort, I just ordered a RX-V2500 from them with a two year Philips warranty (UPS ground shipping, because I'm cheap). I'll let you know how it goes :). Of course, as long as the RX-V2500 doesn't blow up, I won't ever be able to report on the Philips warranty; but, we'll see :p.

I bought nearly my whole car audio setup from them a while back & had no problems. Prices were great, shipping time was exactly as expected. All new pieces, so no used/open box surprises. All the parts are still working flawlessly.

I gave up and bought at Tweeter

Well I bought my Yamaha RX-V2500 yesterday from Tweeter. There is a store near my home and the guy made me a good deal. I paid $875 out-the-door and that came with a 5-year tweeter warranty upgrade that covers everything above and beyond the yamaha 2-year warranty, including the remote. That is roughly $50 more than I would have paid through etronics after 2-day shipping and the $80 warranty I would have purhcased.

So, for $50 I got to walk out with a box that was unmarred from shipping. I didn't have to watch the package via tracking. I didn't have to worry about how to fix a problem if it showed up damaged, missing parts, etc. And so on...

That peace-of-mind was well worth $50 to me. The best part is, when I finish posting this reply I will promptly head downstairs and crank that sweet baby up! For those of you considering this model; I think it's every bit as good as the 4.75/5 star review it received on this site!

Best regards

I just used etronics.com as well

I have ordered an RX-V2500 from etronics as well (there seems to be a lot of that going around - must be something in the water). They seemed to have the right combination of price, return policy, user ratings, extended warranty offerings, etc. I e-mailed them with a question regarding the extended warrany, and they responded very quickly. So far, so good, but of course, I haven't received anything yet, so I'll let you know more once I receive the product.

Just finished setting up my RX-V2500 that arrived from Etronics today. Even though I selected UPS, it was delivered with DHL; it turned out fine, so no worries (DHL was even curtious enough to make a second delivery attempt on the same day, something UPS has never done for me). I was a little worried that they'd send me the silver one instead of the black because they don't give you the option, but they sent the black like I wanted. It was shipped double boxed and arrived in perfect condition. Unlike all the horror stories about random online vendors, the serial number was intact. I've set it up (in 5.1) and tested it lightly and it seems to work fine (it's the middle of the night here, so I couldn't really play with it yet :)).

So, unless something goes wrong, that's all there is to it :p.
