Any need for a HD STB?

Hi

I have 2 Crt TV's, one is SD Panasonic WS (2003?) scart (incl pins for PbPrY) The manual doesn't say what the picture resolution is but doed say it is only a standard definition TV. I am using a Topfield SD TF4000 stb with it.
The other Crt (Philips WS PW8808, 2004?)has component connections and 480p and using a Topfield TF5000 Pvr.
On a forum a poster suggested (to someone else) to use a HD stb to get the best picture on their Philips 8808 Crt TV.
Does using a Topfield 7010 stb with component connections make any difference on a Crt, and would it work at all seeing my TV's are SD?
If it is compatible, would I get the 'freeview' channels?
Also, does freeview work on existing SD or HD stb's or do we need to get new ones for this?

Thanks for any assistance with this.
Cheers

I don't know where you are or anything about your cable provider but I do know that there's no way you will get any benefit of HD programming with a 480p set. That's DVD and SD resolution.

To get any benefit of HD you need 1080 or, at least, 720p.

You will most likely be paying more for HD service and the HD STB for no gain.

edit: You might benefit a little if the STB offers component or HDMI outputs over composite, but I really question if it would be worth the investment.
