Any good reason not to use a TC2 as front mains?

I'm buying a 7.1 setup from the speaker company, and I would like to use the TC2 as my front L R & C speakers. I would position the TC2 vertically for the L & R main channels. I'm thinking this would be the closest to a pair of TS3's, minus the built-in woofers (which the subs will handle). Anyone know of a good reason why this would not work well? Nick at The Speaker Company has been very responsive and helpful, but all he has said is the TC2 was designed as a center channel, so that's what he recommends it for. Is it crossover setup perhaps? The rest of the system will consist of:

Onkyo 906 A/V reciever (already purchased)
Either (2) T250 or (2) T300 Subs from The Speaker Company
TSS dipoles for the surrounds
and probably TSB's or TSBL's for rear speakers.

Anyone know of a good reason why the TC2 would or would not be a good idea for all three front channels? Thanks!

It's always best to match the 3 front speakers. I suggest making the center vertical. I don't want to take away from Nicks company, but I wonder about the subs they make being used with a 906. I mean thats a 2000 dollar receiver retail. It shoudl be paired with at least 4000 in speakers.

I know you own it already and it sweet receiver. I mean that.

I think you should pair it with the best speakers you can find.

Do give nick's stuff a try though. If you like it then keep it and love it.

Thanks for the quick reply! haha I figured I'd get a "why TSC speakers with a 906 reply" sooner or later... :c) but I did not pay anywhere near the $2200 Retail of the 906. The reviews of TSC speakers have been very good overall, and it seems I would have to spend 30-50% more to get something marginally better. Unless you have some recomendations for me? I'm all ears!!! Thanks again.

btw, do you know of any design parameter that would/could preclude using the tc2 for the main channels?

Thanks again!

My reccomendations come from my preferences. Which I learned from listening to different speakers. I suggest you do the same.

I love KEFs and if I were buying retail speakers I would purchase KEF iQs with your budget.

I am currently using the TC2 as a center speaker. While I'm happy with it, I do not recommend it as a front speakers setup. I'm not sure if I did not setup properly or what but it sound muff and sound not quite match the front speakers. By no means the TC2 is bad. The TC2 is very good at vocal reproduction in movies. I have poor English. I turn on Closed captioning every time I watch a movie, but not any more after I got my TC2.

I think thespeakercompany makes great budget entry speakers, but I think the pro should look else where.

Thanks for the tip on the KEF's. I like the looks and reviews of the KEF's. Nice specs, but that's only half the story. I'm looking for a place to audition a pair. Pricing out a set of KEF iQ's for a 7.1 system, I'm coming in at $1100 more than with TSC and that's with no sub on the KEF system. When it's all said and done, KEF's will be over double. That's a pretty big difference...

LOL. Depends on where you buy the KEFs and which ones you get.

http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/KEFIQ1BLKA/KEF/iQ1-2-Way-5.25-Bookshelf-Speakers-Black-pair-NEW/1.html

Get 2 sets and you got a home theater surround sound systerm

for 460 bucks.

You can add the iQ2c for a center for 150.

That's 610 for great speakers. Pair it with a nice DIY sub and your looking at a very nice setup.

I will add I recently had the chance for a full iQ set at 500 bucks with iQ5s, iQ1s and an iQ2 on craigslist. Smoking deals are out there.

to find a kef dealer.

www.kef.com look up the dealer. Go listen and listen to all their speakers.

I'll have to look into the bookshelf speakers. I'm looking forward to the audition. Thanks again!

The TC2 is a fantastic speaker!

At the price, I'll use 4 of them as my surrounds.

This is great that a speaker company can produce such good performers at such low price. I love my hobby more everyday. :)
