Any card game players here? (not poker)

Though I like poker fine enough, like most dudes.

Just curious. I like trick taking games. :) I particularly like learning foreign card games, and then of course turning them into drinking games with my friends.

I've recently been learning bridge. It's going to take a long time to understand the bidding, though the gameplay seems straightforward enough.

I've been playing a lot of sheepshead, a game that is popular in Wisconsin. I've played 2, 3, 4, 5 player versions.

Durak is the most common Russian game, and there's no winner, just a loser. :p Preference is another game from that land, but boy oh boy is that complex. These games are referenced sometimes in Russian literature; I remember both being mentioned in The Brothers Karamazov. ;)

I learned the French game Belote a long time ago, but forgot how to play.

The one American card game that I'd like to relearn is spades. I think I played once in HS way back when. I've played hearts, of course, and also Cribbage and Euchre, but sort of forgot how to play those.

Any recommendations out there? :D

Cheers.

Jost, I like to play ROOK myself. It is so much fun! I also like Uno and Spades. Have learned to never play my Mom at Rummy, because she always wins!!!!!!:p:eek:

I haven't played cards in years. Mostly because my pooch cheats. :D

My favorite game had to be Hearts, though. I used to play that with friends in the dorm every day when I was a sophomore. Those were great times.

Although it's a familiar game, with rules/ordering/scoring that is simpler, the game is actually a lot harder than other seemingly difficult foreign games. Mostly because there are 52 cards in use. :D (foreign games seem to often use only 32, or 36 cards, etc).

I only really picked up cards later in life, but I think they're great. Keeps the mind active; use it or lose it. And you can find something for any # of people, with any level of difficulty in mind. My suggestion is to promote game play with friends and family. :D

I've tried to like playing cards but I always get so bored...I guess I'm just not that competitive. I kinda wish I was more interested in it though.

Anyway...My wife and our friends like playing "kings on the corner" and "A**hole".

Beer wench! Grab me a beer!

Vice president, I order you to order Azzhole to drink more beer!

Kings on the corner sounds really familiar. I'm sure I've played it, but don't quite recall. Hell, I'll look it up right now.

***yep, I've played Kings.... :)

My favorite card games are No limit hold-em poker, Euchre, Cribbage, Gin, Pinnacle, Progressive Rummy and A s s h o l e.

All amazing card games IMO. You can google each card game to learn how to play them.

I forgot to mention in my previous post about the card game 500. It is kind of like Euchre but with a larger deck that includes jokers. There is also bidding on the # of tricks you think you can get and a scoring system based on it. Another highly recommended card game.

I've become really into Cribbage and Progressive Rummy (Chicago Rummy) because of my wife. Rummy games with her family get kind of intense!

All this talk about cheating and cards makes me want to watch the movie Rounders.

How can we forget the card game Crazy Eights Countdown
