Antenna needed or not?

I'm getting an RV-663. Now that I've finished prewiring for speakers, etc, it dawned on me that I hadn't considered if an external antenna might be needed. Should I run an antenna wire or does the receiver have a sufficient built-in antenna? If I need to run for an antenna, is that just common antenna wire?

Ive used the fm signal from my off ota. Sometimes cable companies will include these signals as well. Are you in a single family home,condo, apt, ect.. cause the building can have an affect on reception.

Just like real estate, it all boils down to three things :

Location, location and location.

In some places you can get lotsa stations with a simple wire danging out the back and others get lousy reception with an antenna with enough metal to make a battleship on the roof.

Also, the terrain between you and the statarget station can be an impediment as well. FM likes a clear, straight-line with nothing between your antenna and the station.

My RX-V663 picks up FM just fine with the antenna that came with it.

Access to attic?

The best thing to do, if you are able, is to run a coax wire up to the attic or roof and install an FM antenna. This will provide rock solid reception and actually make FM sound good. It is a simple task, it's cheap and it works. If you really want to expand your 'radio' listening, look into internet radio. It is the bees knees.
