Yeah, I got this from a friend (will remain anonymous).
We talk a lot on the phone.;)

(Granted I talk to a lot of members here.;))

Anyhow, some of the problems I was having is that even cut at 50Hz, the bass was still a tad localized to my ears.
Actually cut at 80 it was localized a tad, at 50 it just seemed to be bass heavy on my right side.
(Eyes open or closed, I think I am old enough to not need a DBT)
If you have to do a DBT, then I would say you just don't trust your ears and eyes.
I mean if I put mud prints and dirty shoes on my sub, you are actually going to say the other one sounded better. Logos mean absolutely *ick.
Hey if it sounds good to you, then that should be enough.....
Surely I have acoustic problems in the room, but the clean bass these things put out - I figured I would go the dual route.

Anyhow, (friend) paid for it. But I will pay him back, already offered money.
But he said wait 'till I get better situated'. Some of you know, I am in a bit of a financial bind at the moment (due to hurricane damage)

I will say thank you to Dukester for shipping the sub. (he will come through for you)

It is a Piano Black, my other one is a Rosewood.
Kinda hard to find a deal on a Rosewood (so I may sell it, for a second PB, to have a matching set, plus my 7 other speakers have Piano Black finish)
The Rosewood is absolutely beautiful.
But it kinda sticks out (granted that is what it is supposed to do)

At the moment it is not hooked up. I will get back after I hook it up.
Some of you know I live in a retirement condo (hah, yeah that will stop me)
Seriously though, I have cranked it up a tad (Rosewood) here so I know what it can do.:D
Two of these monsters is just unbelievable........

It was also purchased because I will be putting it into a true HT room (whenever I sell the condo)
Good thing though, I spoke with the real-estate lady and she said the market is perfect right now.
So the other 'house' in GA will be building very soon......

Anyhow, here are some pics for you guys to feast on for awhile (yes I am rubbing it in)
(But wouldn't you!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Thanks again Duke, and friend (I will call you both later).

EDIT:: Newsflash.... The other sub I have is a VTF-3R that was converted to a MK2 (with amplifier upgrade)
Hmm, I will have to test each one individually.....
Granted the Rosewood is beautiful. And plays perfect, but there may be sound differences (I will see)

EDIT#2:: Wow, I already have a small list of people that want the Rosewood.......
See pictures of it here - http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showpost.php?p=109380&postcount=20

EDIT #3:: PM'd Peter Marcks, and from what he and I gather there is very little to no difference between the subs. And that the Turbo upgrade should work fine on it as well.

See entire thread of that Rosewood and the sound of it here

Don't understand about the VTR 3R...Is that Rosewood with a Mk 1 amp, upgraded to a Mk2? Or, where you referring to your new PB?

Your crossover problem is with just one sub or 2?

Oh its not a crossover problem. Its a room acoustics problem. I don't corner load the sub (single) so it has a tendancy to be a little bass heavy on my right side. The (single) sub is located within my mains. My mains are 10' apart and the sub is located between the right main and the center channel. I have tried corner placement, but my room is terrible. I have also tried the back wall, side wall, etc... It sounds perfect where it is at. Just a tad bass heavy on that side (not boomy at all, just even at 50Hz the sub is slightly localized on the right side of the room, at 80Hz it is a tad more localized to the right side and frontish area). Hence a dual setup to equal it out for me. The new room may not have as many issues.
But 2 subs is where I will always stay at.;)
I will be contacting Hsu (Peter) for any comments he can give me on the Rosewood issue.
Basically a MK1 had the ports at the bottom, the VTF-3R from my understanding has the ports on the top.
Problem is the port spacing between the the 2 subs is slightly different, which leads me to beleive the sub was upgraded to the MK2 amp.
Not really a problem, I am sure they will sound the same.

Ok, just did some slight subjective testing. Actually they sound the exact same. But, while in 1 port plugged mode the Rosewood seems to have more SPLs. Both subs were in the same spot (man they are heavy) Granted, at the moment it is 12:17am here at the condo, so true tests can't be done now....
I will try at a decent hour.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The extra 6db gain is amazing. The Rosewood I had gain knob at level 3 (its now at 2 1/2)
The PB is at 2 3/4 gain level.

That extra headroom is just amazing. Even at low to mid volumes you can tell the extra impact.
And my goodness, at the normal listening levels it is just absolutely mind-blowing.

Ok, been PM'ing Peter Marcks on this. It seems like Turbo should work just fine.
Anyhow, it (Rosewood) is sold....

So now I am off to get another Piano Black, so I will have a matching set....

....I think coke cans in the picture are a wonderful add....they give quickly recognizable scale....set a couple of coke cans in the picture, and we can tell about how big the component bees......

I did that with the Rosewood sub and it is the same dimensions.
The subs are not small (by no means) so if anyone plans on ordering one keep this in mind.

Granted its not a monster PB4 (like Mule's dual setup). But it is fairly large for a sub.
Also it is a good idea to make sure you have a general basis where you want to put the sub(s).
IMO, they work great in the front soundstage most of the time. This is where I have mine.
But each room placement for optimal bass needs to be a concern.
And moving around a 90lb sub about 10 times is not fun.
Doing this with 2 is even less fun. But the rewards of 2 subs is well worth it.

For me the 2 up front seems to work great. I have tried placement in many other areas. But always find the best spot up front. It really seems to even out the soundstage.
A dual setup will also give great headroom for the amps. Meaning the subs need much less amp power to fill the room with bass.

I had been meaning to start a thread on this, but I am lazy sometimes.

Anyhow, dual subs is where its at. I recommend it for anyone that can get away with it (including the WAF)
