Another sign of the times

A long time Washington, DC area hifi home electronics store, MeyerEmco, is closing. Blame the recent poor economy and the changing world of AV sales.

Although it was once considered a very good store, with all the internet sites, it doesn't seem to be such a great loss.

Wow, this is quite sad news. I'm not aware of any other B&W dealer in our area as Meyer-Emco handled that as well as McIntosh. Though I don't consider myself a customer as I haven't purchased any high dollar items from them, it's still sad to see the competition shrink.

Then again, many of the other brands that were carried by Myer Emco - Def Tech, Pioneer Elite, Yamaha, etc. can all be easily obtained through places such as Best Buy's Magnolia stores. I'm sure BB lured more than a few customers away from M.E. Sad.

Yeah, the internet has become the most used method by many customers to buy stuff, you can buy something with just few clicks..and you're done, its sad how stores like this close.

A sign of people who are so used to fifty-cent earbuds on iPods, no doubt. It's killing everything to do with 'high end' production and equipment. The audio culture has really stooped to a low ebb. But the economy is converging to make it even worse. My wife and I were at the mall today, and observed that the big chocolatier store there was closed and gone. As a videographer, my product is a lot like that chocolate.. people can get married without a video. They just don't have the memories, but they have the present.
Ironically, technology has brought us perfect audio, but people could care less. It's like the current generation is brain-dead.
