Another Reason to LOVE Cirque du Soleil

I love concerts, theater, sporting events, and yes, a circus. And to say that Cirque combines the best of all of these events still sells them short. Cirque du Soleil stands in a class by itself. </FONT></P>

I've seen two traveling Cirque shows. I agree that they are great entertainment and that seeing one of the televised shows is no comparison.

The first show I saw was Varekai in Chicago. I was blown away. The acrobatics and stunts were awesome. There were humorous parts too. It was very entertaining in many ways. I also saw Quidam in Cincinnati. This was good but not as good as the first show.

The music at the two shows I saw was original stuff, and for lack of a better word, maybe a little to "artsy" for my taste. I can imagine that a Beatles show would be awesome.

Artsy is a great word for the typical Cirque shows! While still an "artsy" show, the music here is what sets LOVE apart. If you enjoyed previous Cirque shows, as music lover you will, gosh, I hate to do this, but here goes - LOVE this show.....

They're getting a "permanent" home in Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason, the city is spending 5million to renovate the auditorium to Cirque's specs. It'll be interesting.

I have always wanted to see them live and almost did when they came here to Houston, a couple of summers ago.

And there in lied the problem. It was summer and the event is held outside in a tent. Not someplace you want to be in the dead of summer around here.

I would suggest a spring or fall schedule, if anyone at Soleil is listening!!!!

I just don't get them. I've seen them twice here in Phila. Once at my own volition and secondly after being dragged there while loudly protesting. Boooooring is my term for them!

For the record - the tents are climate controlled. Warm in the winter, cool in the summer. I have seen the traveling shows in many kinds of weather...

I saw Varekai on some island in NYC. It was held in a tent in the middle of a hot New York summer.

As bird notes, the tents have A/C. They are semi-permanent installations with all the trimmings. They're really just temporary buildings shaped to look like tents.

Generally I find the CdS pretty French and a way too artsy for me. But I still can't help but watch it when It's on PBS. The performers are amazing and their timing is incredible. I'd like to see the show live some time, but I may have to get a little hammered first in order to let the general weirdness of their shows not bother me.

Okay, I am ACTUALLY laughing out loud reading your post. I had to explain to my wife what was making me laugh so hard. That is one of the funnier posts I have ever read!!! I completely respect that view!!!!
