Another reason to avoid movie theatres.

At least during the day. Yeah, this is a bizarre one.

Mrs W and I went to the 10:30 AM showing of MI 4 (fun movie. Maybe the best of the bunch).

We're about 2 hours and fifteen minutes into it and in walk about four people with flashlights and talking loudly looking for seats. About a minute later, another bunch with flashlights and talking loudly.

Now, this is about 2 1/2 hours long. The action part was almost over, and was just starting the wind-down but that part sometimes ties it all together.

This went on for the rest of the fargin' movie and we could NOT hear what was going on. They must have all taken Viagra because they are all plicks. When people told them to be quiet they just got louder and said nobody tells them what to do.

It turns out it was a group from a senior citizens home. Now, I have nothing against old farts (hell, I am one) but I've never seen a group of old people act as rudely and as inconsiderate as these aholes.

Anyhow, a bunch of us left the theatre and went straight to the managers office and told him what happened. He said he gave them a good deal which is all well and good, but, we asked, what about the rest of us who were deprived of out movie experience? Someone else said this is just another reason to stay home with a DVD and a HT system (yes, another kindred spirit)

He gave out free passes to everyone in that showing that complained, more than 20 of us, which was just about everyone. So, that's one good deed that backfired on him.

But, I really pity those poor souls who were in that showing. Even when thy sat down they didn't shut up. Methinks he'll be passing out more passes.

so, now we have to get it just to see the last few minutes.

Yep, you gotta wait til the old bastards go to bed before you head out to have fun. :)

Down in Fla I had to close up a Marshall's store front that an old lady had driven through, no sh!t. There was a retirement community close by and a group of walking fossils had converged to gawk and gab. They were a little too close and a little too distracting making it tough for me work. They had been asked to back off for their own safety and that moved them back a few feet but I just felt they were being bothersome so I loaded a Hilti DX350 with red shot and fired it into a steel beam scarring the bejaysus out of the lot of 'em. The way they took to the air all at once made it look like geriatric group aerobics. I must have had my evil smirk on because I overheard one of the old ladies saying, "I think he did it on purpose."

They must all be dead by now and I'm sure they're happy to know that I now have tinnitus.

I said it was bizarre.

I never had this kind of problem.
Until this morning, neither did I. Nor did I even conceive of it.

It looks like the "home" just dropped 'em off and left 'em with no supervision. Since it seems that AMC theatres had a hand in this fiasco, I hope it cost 'em good money in free passes.

If they wanted to do a kindness, fine, God bless 'em, but they should have had at least a minimum-wage usher to handle 'em since it appears the home didn't provide a "wrangler". They are lucky none of 'em fell while trying to navigate those steps in the dark theatre with stadium seating, not to mention the commotion they caused.

I saw that movie yesterday with my wife. There was a lady one seat from my wife who was verbally exclaiming at every bit of action that took place. No effort to be quiet whatsoever...

"Oh my god!"

"Jeeeeeezzzz!"

"That's unbelievable. Did you see that?!"

The tone and volume of her voice came across as though what she was seeing was taking place in real life right in front of her.

We were able to just laugh to ourselves about it, but if my mood hadn't been right, I'd have made some noise. People can be amazing sometimes.

How can a deal that lets them see the last 15 minutes of the movie be considered "good"? Was it for the next showing?

They should have a border collie for times like this.

Hey that was the reason for the deal, they thought it was a short film geez at that age 15 minutes would seem like an eternity

It's funny that you mentioned that.
I used to do the electrical work at a pretty big concert venue here.
I'd get a list of things to be repaired; all vandalism from the previous night.
The guys in security used to tell me that the worst (as far as fights & damage) was during shows that drew an older senior crowd.
At first I didn't believe it; though the next ten years told me differently.
Everything from portable ATM's tipped over and the wiring ripped out of the wall, to someone peeing on the keyboards in the computer room. (because he didn't like the long bathroom lines)
Not to mention the constant fights.
Not to say there weren't problems at other shows, it was just over the top with a senior crowd. There's just too much to type.:D

I didn't ask, but I assume it was for the next showing.
That makes no sense...they get to see the whole next showing AND part of the previous showing...so they get a special deal?

It really makes no sense either way.

OK, try this...

1) The manager gave, or sold really cheaply, some movie passes to a local retirement home for a specific show at a specific time.

2) The home dropped them off early and didn't provide a chaperone, or wrangler. Apparantly, neither did AMC.

3) They got there early for the next showing and didn't want to wait for the current one to let out. ...even though the show time on the sign says 2 1/2 hours earlier!

...or they simply didn't give a shiite.

Remember, there are no "guards" in cineplexes to tell people the current show is still going on. Seating for the next one will start in x minutes. Those days are long gone.

does that help?

Which is why the All Day Movie Pass is now possible. You have free roam of the place.

Young, old, doesn't matter: Jack wagons are jack wagons. I really just don't like going to the theater anymore because of people, plain and simple.

So they saw how the movie ended which gave everything away, then watched it again from the beginning? I guess they probably all had Alzheimer's, so when they watched it the second time around, they likely had already forgotten how it ended.

I never had this kind of problem.
I've had some experiences, but not like this. Wife and I went to see Sherlock Holmes last night (Monday night). Pretty dead for the 6:25 showing. So no noise from the crowd. I'm thinking Monday night is a great time to go see a movie!

Many, many years ago, mom dropped me and my brother off at a theater that was doing a special kids showing of The Last Starfighter. No adults in the theater at all. Packed solid with kids. Noise, popcorn, and candy flew for the entire movie. I don't think the theater ever tried another kids special again after that one. Now I can look back and laugh about the poor kid that had to clean that up!

that's one of the many reasons I have not been to a theater in 18 or 20 years, and I have no plans to go to one.

as a matter of fact the last movie I went to in a theater was "Forrest Gump" :D
