Have a room that is 2300 cubic feet attached to a stairwell.

I am looking for a sub that is capable of hitting the low frequencies, I want to feel it! my current sub doesn't accentuate below my new towers....

I have been looking at HSU, now shipping in Canada (yes I am looking for options north of the border!) and am leaning toward them but thought I would ask first!

My current budget is approx. $600 but I'm not in a hurry so if I can't get what I want now I will continue saving!

My towers were DIY so I am completely comfortable with doing a sub the same way.

I'd say if you're comfortable with DIY, that would probably be the way to go. If you're not really familiar with it, I think a good first step would be to browse this site a bit by Josh Ricci who does the sub reviews here at AH:

Data-Bass

You'll see a lot of different DIY builds and be able to at least get a few ideas that way, not to mention see how they compare to commercial subs at various price points to ascertain how worthwhile it is. With respect to Hsu, the VTF 2.4 would probably be what you're looking at, and the closest thing to that which Josh has measured is the Outlaw LFM-1 EX, though the Outlaw probably has a bit of an output advantage.
