Yes they had to sell a lot, just in people I know they sold 8 pairs, 3 of which have not arrived as of yet.... $400 is worth the wait, and I never had to deal with a long wait from them so maybe their policy is to have no policy on alerting people about wait times... Maybe send over a phone call or email and let them know to get on the ball... My evo-2's were bought from them on sale {like 50 or 60% off a $2200 pair of towers} and they sold 6 pairs the day I ordered mine!!!! So they move some equipment over there... I knid of want another set of the epos 2's but Im going to wait, and wait until I get my csb1's I just ordered before buying too many more sets of bookshelfs, lol...

We have a winner!!!

I got back from our vacation yesterday and lo and behold the Epic 2’s arrived. While I was not happy with the time it took MD to get them to me, all was forgiven once I hooked them up last night.

I bought these on the basis of a demo of the Epos M12.2’s at a local shop. While ImcLoud sang their praises, I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive about how they would sound. Would they be as sharp & dynamic as the M12.2’s? Would they fill the room (15’x15’) with enough of a soundstage and image as well, since the demo room (8’x10’) was smaller and had acoustical panel’s to perfect the speakers delivery, something that the Winter Quarters don’t possess at all? The answer is yes to all of the above. Right off the bat I noticed that these speakers had more than enough bass, a hell of a lot more than the M12.2’s. Integrating the Athena P1 sub, at 20% volume, only seemed to enhance it.

While the upper end is not as sibilant at the M12.2’s, they are very crystal clear and I actually prefer it. One of the reasons I didn’t purchase the M12.2’s that day was that I was afraid of ear fatigue; I will be spending most of the upcoming season up there in 5 to 8 hour stretches. Another bonus I wasn’t expecting was how fantastic they sound at low volumes, since I’ll be spending more time there in the evenings as well, when the wife comes home. Just in case you’re wondering, I turned up the volume on the Yamaha RX-V2600 to 20dB, which I normally never ever do, and they didn’t even break a sweat. I came very close to purchasing a pair of Dynaudio Excite X-12’s at World Wide Stereo for $1200 after a demo 3 months ago and I’m glad I didn’t. Some people will think I’m delusional but I think they sound just as good, if not better, as the X-12’s; keep in mind I’m 58 and attended well over 200 concerts in my time. It could be my wallet talking but I wouldn’t hesitate for a minute in recommending the Epic 2’s, when it comes to the sound and the looks, as compared to the X-12’s. I also have to add that at $750, AVR, speakers (L-R-C-Sub), I am happy as a pig in you-know-what. I have yet to watch/listen to a DVD with the existing Polk CS-2 center, so possible fine tuning (another center or the single Canton Ergo RC-K bookshelf with a dead tweeter I bought for $60; I’m hoping the Vifa replacement tweeter ($28) from Parts Express does the trick) may be needed. It’s a great start though, since music is more important to me than HT.

Thanks again to ImcLoud and everyone else here for your suggestions. If there is a better sounding bookshelf speaker for $400 a pair, I haven’t heard it and I highly recommend the Epos Epic 2’s.

P.S. the Topping TA2022 is on my radar and it’s only a matter of time. I’m hoping to get some dual usage out of it for my bedroom & as a portable device out on the deck with my Athena AS-B2-1/Epos Epic 2/KEF LS50 speakers for parties.

WOW, they took there time getting there, sorry to hear that, I have my set and my brother has his and a few others I know got theirs, I am surprised yours took so long...

But I am glad to hear you like them, I like them a lot too, I moved my set to my office {not the home one, my real office} and I love them things... When ever you hear me recommend a speaker you can almost bet your life that they will sound warm and never cause fatigue, I am sensitive to bright speakers and get migraines when I listen for a long time to anything too abrasive, its one of the reasons I don't listen to the jades much is because they cause fatigue, $3200 set of speakers and I prefer my evo2-40's over them, they are actually on there way back into their boxes as soon as I get time to pull them out, I love their sound, and no one else would call them bright, but after a couple hours Im done with them...
It seems people mistake a forward bright speaker for good sound, I seen people in best buy blasting them cheaper klispch towers and saying they sound so good, because the symbols are so strong, blah blah blah, I just think to my self, you are being tricked, get them home and listen for a while, all that "definition" they think they are hearing is going to turn into aspirin and a glass of water...

Anyway Im glad you go them and Im happy you like them, I get a ton of emails from people I recommend gear to that enjoy it and it makes me happy because it shows me I still know what sounds good... :D

Note too that these are no longer at the sale price (not even listed at Music Direct anymore), so you might actually have gotten one of their last sets! The Epic 1s are still on sale though. Glad to hear that you like them.

ImcLoud - I hear :D what you're saying. I absolutely love my Focal 1027Be's with the beryllium tweeters for critical/detailed music listening but 3 to 4 hours is my max. Luckily no such fatigue takes place on Sunday's, where I might watch football all day and possibly another 2 movies that night. Go figure.

j-garcia - The King of Cheap is happy to hear that. :D

Yah I haven't seen them marked in stock in a while, and they have been completely removed now... I am always checking music direct for deals, I have so many pairs of bookshelfs now, I really need to stop buying them, but they are addicting.. I have TAD 2201's, wharfedale dentons, music hall marimbas, rega rs1's, and the epos 2's all from Music direc ton sale of some sort, I also bought a pair of psb mini imagines locally used, and I have evo2-08s, csb1's, all the ascends {170's, 200's, 340's, and sierra 's with and with out tweeter upgrade}, plus a few others not worth mentioning.. It like to be able to go switch them out so easily, put a decent set of electronics, with a decent set of sus and some bookshelf stands makes it a speaker testing station, you can throw any bookshelfs on there and test them out, or just feel like a change, just take them down and put a different one up... Muc heasier tha towers that is for sure, and easy to store...

WOW I need to use you as a reference point for "out of control". :D

My wife loves to go on and on with her friends and family about how "out of control" I am with speakers/equipment. I feel like a complete piker compared to you. :p I only own 7 pairs of bookshelves (only 3 were bought new) but you would think I'm draining the US Treasury to hear her talk.

My wife doesn't bother me about the cost much, more the aesthetics and the clutter, she has a 5ct. diamond ring that cost more than every speaker and tv I own, and 30+ carats total so she knows better than to complain about speakers, but she complains about the space they take up and the time I spend with them... I am not the type to spend $10k on a speaker, but is there is a $10,000 speaker on sale for $3000 I may but it if I like the sound... Although when ever I bring up her jewelry, she asks how much my Blaser R93 Imperial cost "us" lol...
