Amplifier Watt Rating

Hi everybody,
I ordered the Yamaha NS-AW150W the other day for my patio, ended up being shipped the 190's (Thank you very much). Now I just noticed today that it says on the box "Maximum Power Input 120 Watts".
It will be powered by an Emo UPA-7 which is rated 125W into 8Ohms. So will this fry the speakers and I will find my Tweeter cone in the backyard one day? Thanks.

No worries! You'll be fine. My rt7s say maximum power 150 watts, but I'm running a 250 wpc amp to them. They've never sounded better.

You will be just fine. The speaker ratings are skewed and are typically rated continuous, which if your driving them at that rate, the police will be knocking:eek: My mains are rated a 175w per and I drive them with a 250w amp.

Edit: The above dude beat me to it

And besides, you will never find your tweeter cones in your backyard, but in the debris of your burned down house. :D

:eek::D Too funny! ROTFLMAO!:D

And as the guys have said you will be fine. All my speakers are being driven by a 405wpc Sunfire amp. They sound TERRIFIC!

The speakers will only take as much power as they need to operate to their full potential. What is important is to make sure that the power is there for them to access it.

That's how speakers get blown trying to take power from receivers that don't have it to give & burn out their tweeters trying.

Now with your amp, your ears will give out before the speakers do, and if you are dumb enough to keep pushing up the volume then you will end up with blown ears as well as speakers. In which case you won't have to worry about having power for your speakers!:D

Ya, you'll be perfectly fine; I used to drive a pair of small speakers rated at 50 watts total power ouput with a 150 watts RMS per channel amplifier.

* And the cones of my tweeters are still attached to them. :)
