Not sure where this really belongs.... Kinda a cross between the two, but maybe someone can help me.

I have a receiver, it's the RCA RT2770 receiver. It came with a 5.1 surround sound package and has a sub-woofer with it. While it works fine, I always like to have more bass.... Is there any way I can buy another sub and hook it up to this system without it like exploding or something else bad?

Thanks
Josh

Two questions on the subwoofer in that package...

Is it connected to the receiver via speaker cable or an RCA plug?

Also,do the other speakers connect to the receiver or are they all connected to the subwoofer?

Does the receiver have a sub-out (rca jack) output?

It connects VIA a regular speaker cable. But there is a secondary cable next to it for sub-woofer control. But I think that's only because there are 4 settings to the sub-woofer power.

And they are all connected to the receiver, not the sub. The sub is an independent speaker from the rest.

And to answer the other question, yes there is an RCA sub output jack, but the current sub isn't connected to it.

Then it sounds like you can remove that one and connect a different sub via the preamp out.

It has an rca out... Looks like you might be able to add a sub. Depending on what you're looking to spend, your money might be better spent though...

not a sub

I don't believe this is actually a sub but a bass module instead. A bass module is simply the bass section of satellite speaker system- i.e. the Bose Acoustimass
my suggestion would be to buy a real component receiver and begin building a home theater from there...go in stages, but the speaker purchase will give you the biggest bang for your buck, then power(receiver or processor-amp components) and then source components. If you have questions let me know,
I'm happy to help.

it has a sub pre-amp out and the rest of the speakers are connected to the receiver itself, so no. it shouldn't be a problem. even without a sub-preamp out he could still hook up a sub via line level.
