I am considering getting an amp(s) for my system, not because I am unhappy with what I have but because I have an itch to scratch. I dont want to start the debate about if I need one or not Im just asking others opinions on a single 6.1 or 7.1 amp

Im looking for a reasonably priced 6.1 or 7.1 channel amp

Thanks

The most affordable 6 or 7 channel units will be a used or new Outlaw Audio or Emotiva (AV123) or Sherbourn (or is it Sherwood). Check Audiogon or eBay for used ones. I assume you don't actually need another channel for your sub, even though you referred to it as a 6.1 or 7.1 amp.

While the Behringer A500 is only a stereo amp, and would do two speakers, it is only $180 and performs very well. Or, you can bridge it for 300watts+ per channel. If you have the room for 3 to 6 of those, I think it would be less $$.

How much power are you interested in? In a small to medium sized space, 125W is plenty. For 7 channels, 200W start at ~$2000 and ~125W about $1000. Companies to consider:

Adcom
Anthem
ATI
B&K
Cary
Emotiva
NAD
Outlaw
Parasound
Rotel

Thanks, i appreciate the info

I would rather get more then I need so if i can swing it I would like to go 200w per channel. I have 6 channels ( not counting my sub ) right now but Id rather buy 7 and have it for when I upgrade my receiver and get a PrePro

Rotel RMB 1077 class D amp (100 x 7)
or
Rotel RB1080 (200w x 2) + Rotel RMB1095 (200w x 2)
or
Anthem MCA20 (200w x 2) + MCA50 (180w x 5)

I agree that you should purchase the most, clean power that you can afford. Good, quality amps will last many years, my Carver is 16 years old. Emotiva and Outlaw (Internet retailers) are the least expensive based on MSRP, but you maay find a deal lurking at a local specialty retail shop on one of the other manufacturers.
