The ones PENG suggested a in line price wise. Het, I think you just need a new one. Not necessarily "something better". I'm gonna start RCA shopping today. I wanna replace all of them. Like I said, mine are 20 years old and with my system update new RCA's just feels good. :p

Cool let me know what you come up with? Good idea about the RCA cables, new but maybe not exactly "better". Maybe I'll order the monster cable ones 15 and change. I swore them off years ago but I guess they have come to there senses with prices.

Okay guys, here's what I'm looking at. What's the difference between them as far as sq? I'm assuming none. Is there any reason to spend any more than a couple of bucks for the cheapie?

Hope you don't mind Het, I figure if we're both rca shopping... :)
No this is educational for us all. Go for it. I'm gonna learn a thing or two here myself.

I like the first one, "Monolith". Same as my amp, but $15 for 3'? I need 3 of those and two 6' lengths. That gets a little pricey for cables, imo, but if there's a tangible advantage to them I'd consider it. I like the way the mid priced ones look and will probably go with them. A little over a buck a cable for the lowest is pretty nice too though!

I like the first one you linked also. I like a lot of slack so I want those in 6 foot lengths and they are only 19.99 each. That looks to be the winner. Good job on that, thank you.

The Monoprice cables are not bad.

For me I like to go with a good mid range cable like I said either Audioquest or Blue Jeans Cable. Never had a problem with either.

One voice of reason that got me off using Monoprice cables is this;

AVR $900
Speakers (all 7) $2k
Oppo $500
Sub $900
TV $1k

So hooking up close to $5k in gear with Monoprice cables and a Home Depot surge protector seemed a little odd to me

For my HDMI I use Audioquest Pearl
For the RCA I have I use Audioquest Evergreen
Speaker wire is Furez 10awg and BJC 10AWG with Audioquest silver BFA connectors.
Panamax surge protector.

I think I spent less than $250 for all my cables. I have the peace of mind that it will work every time all the time and give me the best sound quality possible. It's a one time buy might as well get decent cables.

There's a discount for multiple cables on that first one. Still $70 if I want to replace all of my cabling.

I'm ok with 100 bucks for 5 but if there's a discount for multiple cables I'll take it. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm running closer to 10 grand in gear and really didn't want to spend $200 on HDMI cables. I buy budget where I can and save the big bucks for stuff that actually makes an audible difference. If you like the way they look, that's fine, but you're paying for aesthetics more than anything.

To each there own I guess, If your happy with it great.

I do have to admit that going from the Monoprice and Costco Wirelogic cables to Audioquest was not a night and day difference. They did make some nice small differences in picture and sound.

My Son's PS3 kept going through HDMI cables every few months (monoprice). The fan is right next to the HDMI port and the cheap solder would fail over time. I put and Audioquest Pearl on there and it's been good for over 3 years now.

I'm not going to argue that cables matter, we all like what we like and will suggest what we like to others.

Nothing wrong with being happy with more expensive interconnects. And it sounds like you found an instance where better build quality might have made a difference in that particular scenario, but has nothing to do with sq. I personally have never encountered that issue.

However, your opinion lacks any kind of substantial measureable difference and falls a little bit on the hocus pocus side. At Audioholics we try to steer folks toward what works, can be measured and is as budget friendly as possible. Magic cable claims don't usually go over too well here...

Oh no none of them $300 1 meter HDMI cables here. $30 Audioquest Pearl and $1 a foot BJC-10C speaker cable. Moving up the chain on Audioquest is a waste of money. $20 Bluejeans sub cable.

I have watched a lot of Audioholics videos and Blue Jeans cable comes up a lot. If I can wait the 3 day for a BJC order then I go that rout. If I need a cable now it's Best Buy and the low end Audioquest.

I have set up a lot of HT for friends and family. Most of the time All cable comes in @ less than $200. When Monoprice is used it's less than $100. I have had to go back and replace Monoprice HDMI cables more than once, I would say 1 out of 6 Monoprice go bad over time. If someone comes to me for HT setup I suggest Monoprice 12/2 speaker cable for the front 3. Monoprice 14/2 speaker cable for surrounds. Either BJC or Pearls for the 2 or 3 HDMI that they will need.

Trust me I live in SoCal and don't make a lot of money so I do not and will buy into the suddo cryogenic cable bull I see a lot of on other forums.

When I set my system up last summer, I read a lot on this site and went with Blue Jeans cables for all connections (HDMI, subwoofer, 10 gauge speaker wire and GLS banana plugs). I couldn't be happier. If you can wait the three days, I doubt you'll regret it.

My mains are always closer to my amp, my surrounds are much longer wire runs so if anything I'd be better off with 14g to the mains and 12g to the surrounds....amps are differently positioned in the case of what you've recommended?

your front 3 in an HT setup carry most of the load. the surrounds are for effects so bigger cable is not needed for surrounds.

Hook it up how you like it is all that matters.

Well since you're making recommendations they should at least be based on something other than the reason you cited. Should choose your cable based on the speakers' impedance and distance of the run....at a typical distance for mains 14g is quite fine even for 4 ohm speakers, but would of course depend on the specific room/routing of the wires.
