It depends who you ask. Guys with receivers reccomend those, and guys with seperates tend to like that set up. My take has been that if you enjoy music more than movies, go with pre pro and amp. Pre pros tend to have less features relating to video and hdtv and hdmi. Receivers have many "features"
that make them attractive to videoaholics. I am 90% music and 10% movies. My prepro is very simple and easy to use and navigate. A few years ago I had a Pioneer Elite receiver and frankly it was a bulky, complicated machine.

Receiver manufacturers can keep up with the "new" must have technology curve that changes every 18 months, whereas the smaller prepro companies generally can't turn around that quick. I noticed that the Emotiva prepro you list doesn't have HDMI switching. There are many here that would recoil in horror if a machine couldn't handle their hdmi needs. Me, I could care less, my TV doesn't have it, and I watch standard dvds for movies, in 5.1 no less:eek:.

So. If you like movies, and have hdmi hdtv needs, get a receiver, there is tons of advise here in that regard. Many here add an amp to the receiver and feel like they get the best of both worlds. If you like music and having seperate components, as I do, get a pre pro. That is my opinon.

One final note......not sure what your budget is, but if you are cost conscious, used amps are a much much more economical way of getting your wattage, imho. Here is a link to my systems cost break down, notice the price of the amps, used vs new.......and know there is no sound difference whatsoever between the used and new.....at least in my rig. HTH

I love my MPS-1 and Emotiva has very good customer service. It will be the middle of next year probably before their new prepros come out but you can get a 40% discount for a trade-in at that time. I think they are offering free shipping right now as well.

What do you have acting as your pre/pro?

Onkyo Pro PR-SC885P, it's in his signature.;)

PS: I suggest you modify your signature to a more family friendly "crappy". The word filter on the forum would have blocked that in a post, so it shouldn't be seen in your signature, just as a kind word of advice. I wouldn't want to see you get banned for your signature.:)

any online retailers for Onkyo's pro line?
The Integra has similar features and apparently better build quality than the Onkyo pro one. I can't find any dealers immediately for the Onkyo model, but there are likely to be some for the Integra.:)

This Onkyo Pro and the Integra 9.8 model are identical. Some speak of build quality differences but I have seen pics from guys who pulled both of them apart over at AVS and they are identical. All that looks different is an Onkyo sticker that was placed over the Integra on on the transformer.

There are a couple of online Onkyo pro retailers but they may not be official and you could have an issue with warrenty. Integra can only be purchased at an actual dealer and they will not sell online or across state lines. If you PM me I'll let you know the name of the dealer I used (In NJ, they shipped to me out of state). The good news is the the pro models are at least 200 dollars cheaper than the Integra even though the msrp's show the pro model being more.

One thing to know is that these are VERY hard to find. I know a couple of people who have been waiting for the Integra since July and still don't have one. The Onkyo's are taking about a 1.5 months but at this point it may be until Feb before you would get it. I waited about 5 weeks.
