amp question + surge protector question

I was wondering, my speakers are not shielded so I have them away from the tv. Should the amp (reciever) be kept away from the speakers, tv, dvd, or any of the other components? Also, like everything is very close so I was just wondering if there are any other units/components that would interfere with each other, I'd like to find out before I have a problem, anyways, the other question is I think I need a surge protector but I think there might be one on the powerbar, assuming there's one on the powerbar is that one sufficient, or would I need to go and get a specific type or kind of surge protector? Also, is using powerbars, especially ones without protections safe? Thanks

The only thing speakers could interefere with would be a CRT (Tube) based TV. The magnetic field from the speakers will distort the picture of your TV if placed too close. As far as the other components go, you shouldn't have any problems with interference unless you use poorly shielded cables.

On the topic of power bars / surge protectors, it really depends on where you live. I live in Kansas where we have our fair share of thunderstorms. So I made sure my Surge protectors could handle a surge from a lightning strike.
