What should I buy a 2 channel amp or a sub (soundstage or low end)? which one is a significant upgrade?

Current set up:
2 chl, T45 (10-150 w, 6 ohm nominal), V-RX663

Room size: 15 X 10

Budget : 250-500.

80% music, 20% movies

A sub would be a far bigger upgrade. Speakers and Subs / amps and receivers in most cases.

For music just get a nice SVS or Velodyne sub.

There is a early 90's 12'' velodyne sub is on CL for 200. Is this worth a look ?

for music if your speakers are capable of hitting somewhat low (unless you want to listen to a pipe organ hitting below 20hz ;)) then in my experience a nice amp is an awesome upgrade! But it really depends on our listening habits, and the type of music we listen too. I prefer easy listening music, jazz, acoustic guitar solos, and some classic rock. A sub for me doesnt really improve things much, but when adding an amp it took my sound to the next level.

Again this really does depend on the music you listen too and the SQ you prefer.

If you would have said your listening habits were 80%movies/ 20% music i would say "get the freaking sub!!! it will make your life complete!!!" lol. But if music is your main concern a good amp should never be overlooked. I've never really used a sub for music anyway though. It definately helps fill in the low end, but you can get a large improvement in clarity, soundstage, dynamics, bass, and overall enjoyment with an amp :).

Now the most important part of what i have to say is this all depends on your source! If your say using crappy MP3's to listen to music than an amp will only make things worse, and in this case i would definately recommend a sub. Remember an amp is amplifying the signal so it will only make crappy recordings sound worse for the most part, but can make an awesome recording sound like true beauty.

Yeah the sub for sure then. You will notice a big difference if you get a sub as you can set your crossover much higher (typically 80Hz) and this will take a significant load off your receiver and make your entire system sound better. Especially with trance as it uses such a wide frequency range all at once throughout the entire track usually.

It is worth a look. Make sure to give it a thorough inspection and testing.

Make sure to counter offer if you are interested. Point out any issues.

Make sure everything works.

Negative, I live in an apartment.
I don't understand why an apartment negates that possibility. Would you mind elaborating? Are you seriously not allowed to put just a couple of nails up? In which case, you're not even allowed to hang a few pictures?

Ok, maybe you don't hang any pics on the wall after all. How about a 3rd PSB tower and a nice mch music collection? :D

For center??
This is the ideal solution for a center as it will match the L/R speakers perfectly. Most people don't go this route due to placement issues. A 3rd tower will fit into your setup perfectly however.
