Amp for a 4ohm 92db sensitivity speaker?

I'm looking for a affordable high power amp with probably 2 channels for these speakers.

or it could possibly be their new PC-9.5 coming out in October. They would be very similar in specs. I'd like the amp to have some kind of meter or readout that would tell me when I was pushing the speakers to their limit.

I will second the Behringer A500 recommendation. If you want more power you can jump up to the Behringer EP2500 and drop a *quiet fan in place of the noisy one that comes in it.:)

*the A500 does not have a fan

I appreciate your recommendations but I've read mixed reviews on that amp & company.

Now I didn't post a price point of what I was looking for but since that amp seems awfully inexpensive. What is another amp that is under $1000?

Very nice speakers. :D

I don't think a meter, or readout will tell you when your pushing your speakers to their limits. I think the speakers themselves will tell you.

thanks, I've been considering that amp. Someone told me that those amps are like a Dodge Viper, lots of power but not very refined. I haven't heard those amps but that's the only bad thing I've read out them. I'm definitely considering it but still looking around.

What are the differences in Professional Amps compared to Home audio amps? The professional amps seem to be the better deal of the two. In home audio amps are we just being raped in price because it's "Home Audio"?

That's a very good speaker for the price. I got to demo them in this huge room at a shop and they no problems filling the room with sound. Mids and highs are very smooth and were non fatiguing no matter how hard the speaker was pushed. I remember they were being powered by a Denon PMA-2000IVR which puts out 150W@4ohm. That behringer should be able to power them to very high SPL with no problems.

Pro-amps can sound great, but some have higher noise floors than comparable home amps, and most have forced air cooling with noisy fans.

Higher end amps are about reliability, added features, consistency, noise floor, and the ability to perform identically into any potential speaker load.

The things that make an amplifier able to drive complex loads are the things that add the most cost to an amp, like large and capable power supplies with plenty of filtering, lots of output transistors, and the heat-sinking to accommodate all of it.

IMO we are not being raped.

Is there anyway to tell how clean and amp will be based on the specifications?

I would look at the Behringer offerings. The EP2500 if you are into serious headroom & dynamics or the A500 if you want good performance on a tighter budget.

If you must go the "home" amplifier route, Parasound & Rotel are pretty well regarded as are Emotiva and Outlaw. AudioSource would be an option on a budget, but they have not been the best, from my experience, at 4 ohms.

Emotiva amplifiers are supposedly very refined. They have low noise floors and produce enough power to power most any speaker system. Like other well designed and assembled amplifiers the Emotiva XPA-2 produces large amounts of power with no audible distortion producing only a pure amplified output from the source, meaning it is transparent.

With each and every persons comments on the Emotiva I'm very much leaning towards them. The reason I've been brainstorming about the subject is the Emotiva brand just appeared out of no where when I was browsing around the internet.

I'm always looking for a gem in audio equipment and by the comments on Emotiva that may be my choice. I'd still like to browse around and hear other peoples recommendations. I'm also looking at some used sub $1000 dollar range and there seems to be quite few.

How are Adcom amps at handling 4ohm speakers? They seem to be very affordable especially the few year old amps. The new ones aren't to highly priced either.

My budget would be anything around ~$1500 range. But let me say that I truly believe I can get equal quality/sound out of something a lot less expensive and that's why I'm where I'm at. I went from $1500 budget to looking at other options and that's when I found Emotiva.

I'd like to find some other companies like Emotiva if there are any. I really can appreciate the passion & design some companies put into their products and not have a price tag to reflect.

Adcom has always made some pretty good amplifiers.

So does NAD. Very solid into 4 ohms. I can't believe I forgot about them :rolleyes:

If you want the most power for the dollar, transparent sound, and a respectable noise floor, the Behringer EP2500 with a quiet fan is a really nice option. You will definitely appreciate the added dynamic capability there.

They have a 30 day home trial to consider also. Dont be afraid to use it if you are unhappy. I like my LPA1 enough to get another one though.
