Or would I be nuts to pass it up? My window of opportunity for a great deal is narrowing. And I'm thinking I should just "Go for Broke." Literally. I know I've been Waffling on multiple combinations, but I'm at a professional and financial crossroads...

I am in a transition period, in which I will be earning about $1200 more a month if all goes well in the near future, but my current financial situation is less then desirable. I need some Reassurance from a few fellow Audioholics that these massive savings (which I will no longer be eligible for if promoted) and pending promotion are argument enough to sink myself into debt.

Vienna Beethoven Baby Grands (Rosewood) - FL/FR

Vienna Waltz Grands (Rosewood) - RL/RR

Vienna Maestro Grand (you guessed it, Rosewood) - C

Rel T-2 in black. Yes. Black. I think it's better then getting ANOTHER wood tone component thats a clashing tone like Cherry.

Denon 2500 transport and AVR-3808.... and the Pièce de résistance (part of the reason I'm questioning my sanity)

Primare A30.5

A great avr..... AND AN AUDIOPHILE GRADE POWERED AMP?!?!?

Total.... $7500

I can go for a decent system for a fraction of this... but for the deal I'm getting, and the fact I won't be able to get these deals again (unless I get Demoted) AND I will be making enough to pay off my purchase in 6 months with JUST what I am making OVER my current salary... I'm on a hair trigger.

Send in the men in White Coats! :D

Tough call. Can you arrange the purchase on the same day you are offered the promotion? It would really suck if you purchased in your current position and the promotion didn't come through. Just tell whoever promotes you that you've been lining up a large purchase and you would like it to go through that very day.

I say "Go for it"!!!! If you're that confident in your new financial situation...then what the heck. Especially if you're really, really hot about the new set-up (whuch is dynamite by the way). Another reason I say go for it is that if things don't go as planned, you would probably recoupe all of the purchace prices on resale (if it is a killer deal as you explained) You only live once. And if there's no other pressing family financial obligations that need to be taken care of first...Ah!! I can the music now! :D

Never, ever go into debt to buy "stuff." I think a mortgage to buy a house is fine. You will lead a happier and wealthier life if you avoid consumer debt like the plague. Learn to resist. The "stuff" will be there tomorrow after you have saved for it.

Listen to fmw I've been there and done that it's no picnic! I've learned to save for it and buy piece by piece. It takes a little longer but it's worth the wait and like fmw stated "It will always be there tomorrow"

Tough call

There is no quicker way to jinx your promotion than to bank on it.
Is there anyway you could buy it and if the promotion doesn't go through return it?
Another thought is if you buy it and promotion is no go could you resell it? I knnow most places frown on reselling things you got employee discount on, but perhaps as long as you didn't make profit it would be ok?

Also remember social security and income taxes are going to leave you with less than $1200 a month - probably closer to $900 spendable - so it may take you longer to pay off that setup.

Couple of questions...

Are you paying full retail for that power amplifier? It will look very nice and be adequate to power those speakers, but you can get more for your money with it still looking nice. Consider the Emotiva XPA-5 if it can save you some money.

With that money saved perhaps you can jump up to a JL audio subwoofer, perhaps the f110 if you are looking for a small footprint. This subwoofer is going to keep the black and small where you want it, only with more output and likely a lower extension. I didn't see any published frequency response on the REL you linked (only for the variable x-over). The JL f112 is considerably bigger, but only costs a few hundred more depending on where you get it. It offers a larger driver, amplifier, as well as more output and greater extension than the f110.

Already taken into consideration ($1200 more is AFTER Uncle Sam and his cronies) but I appreciate the thought.

And I'm getting every item at around 1/2 Seth.

What I am now considering, Is just buying the meat, and building the potatoes later piece by piece. Only problem is, which is which? I'm thinking the Primare and the Vienna Fronts would be the Meat. And I won't even THINK about the Gravy :D

I've had some fantastic musical experiences with Vienna speakers, but other models than what you're mentioning there.....

I listened many times to Vienna Acoustics Mahler, and I've never ever heard dynamics like those speakers ever..... They have a midrange dynamic, when playing underworld, that may interfere with your heart rhythm, which means those speakers are probably not healthy for you, but what great fun......

I almost bought the prevoius Vienna Bethoven speakers, the baby grand is supposedly better
I have only very!!!! positive experiences with Vienna speakers :D

BUT, TRUST YOURSELF AND YOUR EARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And No, you're certainly not nuts considering such products

Just remember there's lots of REL product, too many to mention, I have a belief the R series are well performing...
I don't say that's correct, but I just urge you to review some different sub's too......
You have R-205, R-305 and R-505 from REL

You could ask if they would accept a down payment on the system so they would hold the equipment and price, then see if you get the promotion for sure. If not you could forfeit the down payment. If you do get the promotion, you could finish buying the equipment at the bargain price. Just a thought.

This is SERIOUS meat indeed, you could live long with only these and a well performing music player (+preamp/processor) ! :D

Primary also has an SP31 processor ......

Even if you do get that promotion, it will take you a couple of months to save up the money to buy all that gear.

If you rush out and buy all those gear now, how are you going to pay for it in the mean time (assuming you do get that promotion)? Run up more credit card debt? You know the kind of criminally high interest rates credit companies charge right?

If I were you, I would wait till I get my first upgraded paycheck, buy a decent stereo system, and then wait a couple of months, save up some more money, and then buy the pieces for the rest of your system.

Alright. I got to hear the Viennas on a proper amp yesterday, and I'm completely screwed now... because I can't go with anything less after hearing how beautiful they sounded. I almost cried... :D

I have made a final decision though...

I'm going to Buy the Baby Grands, the Primare and the 3808. I figure I can wait on Blu-Ray to drop to something a bit more reasonable in a year or so, I can definitely survive with a *****in 2.0 system and build to 5.1 later, and I am only waiting on the sub as well because I know how low those Viennas can dip. Total is setting me back about $5k.

Now it's just a waiting game... For that big beautiful delivery truck to arrive at my doorstep with my Babies, and there will be photographs... oh yes. More then one would consider healthy for an audio purchase (outside of these forums at least) :D

I'm just praying the plane from Austria carrying my babies doesn't pull a Cast Away on me.

I think your Babies are sound and safe somewhere in a Best Buy warehouse, in the good old U.S. of A.:D
That scares me worse then my speakers flying FedEx with Tom Hanks

Anyway, I found a solution to my financial issue. I know for sure My promotion is locked down as of about June 10th. Since I came through big for my Manager on Sunday with a customer's set-up (saving a potential $40k return and ending up selling an additional $8k to the same guy), he said he would have no problem signing off on my Direct Purchase after I'm promoted, as long as it's made within 3 weeks of the promotion. So I can probably end up getting everything in ONE SHOT! Save myself about 9 stacks and get an orgasmic setup! I think the thing I'm looking forward to most is posting up the pictures :D

I'm off to dream of Vienna.......
